Doc18: I am stopping at mom and dad's tomorrow night, I'll see about getting the pics. And I'll make sure to get you some copies.
Hopefully I can get some other pictures and join in on the picture sharing.
I love the 70's USAC pics!! They bring back LOTS of memories! I used to slip through the gap where the old guardrail of the 4th turn, and the frontstretch concrete was after the races...so I could get into the pits and get more autographs and pictures...plus sit in the cars!! And going in the infield at Winchester was always a lot of fun. Hearing the 'thunder' of those sprinters echo through the woods down the backstretch always gave me goose bumps!

I don't know who the #9,#14,and #55 are .These are my dads photo's from sharon in september 1970
|
The #55 was most likely the Long Brothers Special owned by Don and Dean Long. Up until 1967, the car was driven by my Dad, Mack Clingan. Not sure who would've been driving it in 1970.
The #55 was originally built for my father by Charlie Aufeiter - one of only two - the other was built for Lou Blaney. The Long Brothers approached my Dad about buying the car after Dad drove it on it's maiden voyage. They bought the car and Dad drove for them until he broke his neck at William's Grove during hot laps in 1967.
More info than you were after....sorry.

the 0 is ferkel ,18 steve unger and 55 al franks
|
What year were these pictures taken? The reason I ask is because my Dad, Mack Clingan, actually owned the #18 and depending on the year the driver may have been Doc Dawson. If the year was 1972 - Dad didn't have a regular driver - various drivers drove for him that year. Steve Ungar drove until 1971 and Doc Dawson began driving the #18 in 1973.
Love the pictures!

Dayton '67. Johnny Rutherford in the 99. Can anyone ID other drivers, or the engines in the 2 rear cars? Inside looks like a hemi, maybe a Caddy or Olds in the 93?
