With four USMTS Castle Rock Recruiting Southern Series races in the books so far this season, defending champion Jason Hughes of Westville, Okla., has a pair of wins and leads the top-notch touring titans into Texas as the current points leader.

Other USMTS Southern Series drivers expected to make some noise this weekend include Jason Hughes, Terry Phillips, Jeremy Payne, Morgan Bagley, Kelly Shryock, Bumper Jones, John O Whittington, Dereck Ramirez, Zack VanderBeek, Randy Timms, Rodney Sanders, Scott Green, Steve Holzkamper, John Allen, Bryan Rowland, Tommy Weder Jr., Shane Hebert, Kyle Schmidt, Brandon Davis, Rory Jordan, Jay Sale, Troy Seidl, Ben Stephens, John Webb, Lee Patton, Steven Whiteaker Jr., Mark Noble, Howard Willis, Dustin Hyde, Tristan Dycus, Tracy Denby Jr., Jon Mitchell, Grant Junghans, David Horner, Darrel Dawson, Shane Killingsworth, Steve Miller, Kyle Anderson, Wes Armstrong, Danny Barringer, Kenny Battarbee, Kevin Battarbee, Nathan Bischel, Jeremy Gossett, Derick Grigsby, Randy Heston, Brad Lasater, Brent Nicholas, Cody Smith, Mark Smith, Jerry Standifer, Shawn Stephenson, Chris Henigan, Hunter Rasdon, Brad Doherty, Chase Allen, Steve Pugh, Jeff Wood, Jon Tesch, Stormy Scott, Ryan Gustin, Ronnie Barbee, Joshua Majek, Jeremy Ross and Jarrod Havens.

FRIDAY, APRIL 16 – GOLDEN TRIANGLE RACEWAY PARK

On Friday, the tripleheader kicks off at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont.

Howard Willis of Vidor sat on the pole and never relinquished the lead as he captured the 2008 event. Four events were held at the track (then called Motorama Speedway) in 2007 with Kelly Shryock, Steve Holzkamper, Tommy Weder Jr. and Jason Hughes each capturing main event wins.

Last year, Bryan Rowland of Woodward, Okla., garnered his first and only USMTS victory here.

Pit and grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7:30 and racing at 8. Also on the racing card will be Limited Modifieds, Pure Stocks and Street Stocks.

The Golden Triangle Raceway Park is a 1/4-mile high-banked clay oval located 9.5 miles west of I-10 on US 90 (SSR). For race day information, call the track hotline at 409-752-7200 or 409-781-2801 or visit www.motoramaspeedway.com on the World Wide Web.

SATURDAY, APRIL 17 – GATOR MOTORPLEX

The action moves to the Gator Motorplex in Willis on Saturday. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 6 and hot laps start at 6:30 with racing to follow.

ASCS Micro Sprints, Limited Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Pure Stocks will also be on the racing card. Limited Modifieds will be racing for a special purse ($600 to win) with 24 or more entries. Mufflers are required at the Gator Motorplex.

Past USMTS Southern Series winners at the Gator Motorplex include Greg Skaggs (2007) and Steve Holzkamper (2008). Three events were staged in 2009 with Jason Hughes, John O Whittington and Kelly Shryock taking the wins.

For spectator comfort, bring your lawn chair or blanket and watch the races from the hill or the grandstands. During intermission kids can ride the “Gator School Bus” around the track for an unforgettable racing experience.

The Gator Motorplex is a 1/4-mile high-banked clay oval located off I-45 to Shepherd Hill (Exit 98), then east, then 1.4 miles south on SR 75. The track's official website is online at www.gatormotorplex.net.

SUNDAY, APRIL 18 – 105 MOTOR SPEEDWAY

The three-race weekend wraps up on Sunday at the 105 Motor Speedway in Cleveland. Pit gate will open at 12 noon, grandstand open at 2 and hot laps are at 4 with racing to follow.

In 2007, local favorite Chris Brown led from start to finish and captured his first USMTS Castle Rock Recruiting Southern Series main event. Paul White of Temple took home the runner-up paycheck while Quinlan's Tim Clonch finished third to give the Texas pilots a monopoly of the podium.

Brown remains undefeated in USMTS competition at his hometown track as he defended his title in 2008 by racing from third to first on the final lap of the main event. The 2009 event was rained out.

The 105 Motor Speedway is a semi-banked 3/8-mile dirt oval located 6.0 miles west of US 59 on SR 105, then 0.3 mile north on Fostoria Rd. For more information, call the track at 936-588-6127. The track website can be found at www.105motorspeedway.net on the World Wide Web.
