Drivers draw for heat race lineups give out heat race points line features straight up from heat races and B main race NO TIME TRIALS NO DASHES NO INVERTS

I kinda like that idea....

Makes the heats VERY  meaningful!

The dream is one of the more unique and entertaining formats of any race. It's nice that it pays out full purses for both semi-features and of course the A main so that several teams can go home with a good pay day. Always a great show. It would be even greater if they could get the purse up to what it was for the initial dream race - 30G to win and 1G to start. The lady who started it helped raise a lot of that money from local track supporters.

As far as formats go, I like it when they use hot laps as time trials for heat race line ups.

I guess you can't pay the same type of purse if you run heats?  Semi's are stupid always have been and always will be.

What about a line up format that went like this:::

Time trial and invert top 6.

Top 2 advance to the dash which is lined up by TT.

Pros and Cons????

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Happy New Year everyone.

Wanted to start the year off with a question for all of you.

What's your preferred format for race lineups?

Pill Draw - Passing Points

Pill Draw - Time Trials - Heat Invert (2, 4, ,6 or 8)

Pill Draw - Time Trials - Straight Up

Any other input on a different format?

JP

Time trials, invert in heats. Draw 0, 4, 6, 8 for invert in A main WoO format SUCKS!

Hot lap all the cars to get the track in shape. Time trials are a waste of time.  Pull pills for heat race line ups,  come feature time take your top heat qualifiers and let them pull a pill for the feature. The racing would be much better I believe. That's how we did it for years and we used to race 4 nights a week.

I didn't see anyone in favor of draw & passing points...

Its confusing, but works great at the Chili Bowl

No perfect format exists, unless they could all line up side by side, & even then, inside/outside lanes would make a huge difference

If there was a perfect format, somebody would have thought of it by now...

PA Speedweek has the best format. Similar to the All Stars with the fastest qualifier in each heat starting 4th, but then the rest are heads up. 4th fastest qualifier in each heat should not start on the pole. 3rd is fair enough.

I like the variety.  WoO with its simple efficiency and fairness, ASCoC with just the fast qualifier in each heat being moved to 4th, with the rest straight up, USAC with the 6 car heat invert (two fastest cars in each heat start outside the transfer), all offer something a little different and it's the variety make each of these series' unique.  USAC pays championship points in TT/Q, I believe.

TT's are by far my most favorite part of every race program.  Watching the drivers vs. the clock and themselves is pure.  No BS, it's on the driver and teams to be as fast as possible without stepping over the line, balls out (or the female version of that whatever it is), nobody to blame a subpar effort on.  The sound of one car on a track is just icing on the cake.  Firm believer that starting 6th in a midget, in a heat where you are the fastest car makes you a better driver in many ways.  Also a firm believer that starting on the pole when you are the 6th fastest in the heat makes you a better driver.

There is an echo of the sound of the motors off the walls (maybe off the hills at Huset's) that makes TT/Q's very special.  On a side note, you might never know a 410ci Al Parker engine has a different sound at full throttle than most of the others if it weren't for TT's.  :)

Thanx,
Bruce

I thought the All Star format inverted all of the top 4 in each heat / group?

Passing points is the worst as far as a fan understanding what is going on and what your particular driver needs to do to make the feature.

Starting this year the All Stars went to each heat being 2nd quick on pole 3rd quick outside front row 4th quick starts 3rd and quick time starting 4th then 5-10th quick in each group starting 5-10.  Dash being the fastest qualifier who transfers from heat and heat winner from each heat.

Qualifying against the cars in your heat and that invert/dash allocation is the best so it don't matter if you go out early/middle/late, since you only qualify against those in your heat group.
