1998 State Fair Speedway Factory Stock Champion, Kim Cook passed away last night around mid-nite. My prayers go out to him and the family......Now you know David, what name to fill in on the "Past Champions" page of this web site for the 1998 Factory Stock Champion. Please keep Him and His family in your prayers.

This is the car that Kim Cook built himself and won the 1998 Championship in (he put a new skin on it and we painted and re-lettered it.) We are planning on running it at Meeker this year for the first time since Kim drove it last in 2000 where he finished 2nd in the points that year. Not sure if I am going to drive it or have my brother Ronny Lehew drive it, but either way it will be drove and raced in memory of Kim Cook.

I remember Kim, he had his success during the F S glory days. He was nothin but nice to me when I started drivin. Kinda ironic that he died at the same time the class did. "God Speed Champ!"

My condolences to Lisa & the entire family. This is a tough one...he is too young to be gone. And his baby girl adored him as he did her!
I remember all the times he would help people at the track (no matter which track it was) and off of the track. A very good person...God rest his soul! He will be dearly missed. I wish I could give you this hug in person Lisa, but I know someone will read this and tell you. I am in San Antonio, TX...not with you physically, but in spirit and prayers!
With love, sympathy and prayers

Meant to post this earlier, but it took a while to dig it out of my mess. I didn't know Kim all that well, but I liked the way he drove and the way he presented himself and the car. He had good sponsors on the car and did his best for them. I seem to recall him helping organize the first "car show and carnival" at Economy Square years ago. I know he was missed when he wasn't on the track anymore. Too darned many good people leaving us lately.

Galen thanks for posting that picture.
Now I remember Kim.
I remember seeing that car in Del City over in the I-40 & Sunnylane area when I was driving that way to-from work.
He was a great champion in a time that the factory stock class was PACKED with good cars & drivers.
My thoughts & condolences are with the family at your time of loss.
