Shane/David:

I recognise several car numbers but can't place some names with the numbers. Several I do recognise are: Bobby Reynolds, Mike Allison, Ron Clark, Gerald Smith, Jimmy Whitson, Dutch, Melvin Rogers, Bill Lewis, Troy Matchen, Harold Leep, Earnest Jennings, Darrell Jennings, Walt McWhorter, Evard Humphrey, David Flatt, Jr., D.E. Suggs, Tom Chestnut, Ronnie Ake, Boots Holder, Leroy Gilmore, Gary Cole, Bob Hurley, Glen Hunter, Danny Daniels, Bill Parker, Tom Pickard.

GRC35

Some others I recognize: Larry Holman (that ugly green 21), Danny Daniels, Wallace Collins, Jackie Howerton (lower rh corner), Billy Riggle, Davey Ross, Loyd Beckman, Joe Farley, Max Albright, Gene Scott.

This has been the greatest thread ever! I grew up watching the races in OKC and would sometimes make the trip to Tulsa (old and big track). Great times...

Welcome sid1956, don't know who you are, but always good to have another aboard. Warren sure has given us a decent watering hole.

I figure the whole page is good as it is, including info about Bob Morris being the photog.

Thanks, Brian! I am mostly a 'lurker' but I will chime in from time-to-time. Your picture (and your car) collections are amazing.

And for the 'what's still out there' file-

I found a guy in Arkansas that has an old super he is trying to get into shape like one his Dad drove in the 60's in the SE , somewhere maybe by Alabama.

My girlfriend upon hearing a co-worker had some race cars, commented on what we're doing here, simple enough right?.... Now, .... she doesn't know a whole lot about this stuff, just a tick more than the average person on the street, but she says quote " He said he had a .....Jelly(?), does that mean anything to you?". To which I replied "uhhh, yah". I'm trying to get in touch with him, he said he hadn't heard about us, and it seems he might be interested in what's going on here.

The cars have always been out there, but this movement is bringing them back to 'radarworthy'.

til next time

Truth is that these pictures are from everywhere, from many people on this site and the ones waiting to discover it, and the ones that have passed. I personally have very few original pics.

My car collection is cool to me, but they need a lot of work.

Brian,

Another cool pic, Top LH pic is Leep Jr in the #29 if I remember right, Bob Hurley in the #04 in the back ground and behind Bob I believe is Steve Scott. Top RH pic is Steve in the #54. 2nd pic down on the left is D.E. believe that is Bo with is hands on top the LR tire & Horace with the air tank, might be Johnny leaning down looking in the LR tire but not sure!! 2nd on right is Tommy Coker in uniform in Todd's, #4 Jelly this car was built very similar to the #2 that Harold Sr. Scott Carson, Jeff Sikes & Aaron drove and the #2 Leep Jr, Lyndon Moss, Charles Jarvis & Butch Roberts drove. The #68 modified I'm lost on, remember the car but I can't place the name. 3rd down on the right is Steve Garey's #56, you can tell by the hood scoop. I believe that is Bobby Walker looking down. 4th on left is Benny in the Old Man's Car, 4th on the right is Bill Parker in the #5 he drove it for a short stint. Evard in the #12 and the old welding truck that unit didn't miss a race for years!!! I've tried to make out other people and cars in these pic's but for now this is best I can do.

To All,

Went over to Tulsa last Wednesday to the Legends Luncheon with Shane and as it was a lot of fun, sit with Leep Sr, Shane, Terry Doss, Mark Champion, Barry Grabel & Mike Webb. It is something if you get a chance to do you should. My old friend Jerry Stone sit with us a little and we talked about the old #94 Shot Hampton car as 1 of Shane's buddy's has bought it and is restoring it. I had to laugh as he asked Shorty if he still needed a body guard after all these years. It is so good to see Darrell Brazell doing so well, Damn also saw Marvin West there of the old Broken Arrow Fiberglass Co. I remember going to his shop late at night a couple of times with Dale Parson to get body parts, Marvin made some of the full visor's, the grill shells and tail pieces for DP, his glass work was really nice.

Brian has been posting a lot of good pic's lately, in the pic's from Shepard Mall one is of Scott Denny's #23, Scott graduated from Putman City a couple years after I did, his dad was a great guy, the car in the pic above was Billy Patton's Sr old #00 modified I believe and I think it might have been one of Phil Hancock's chassis also, maybe GRC 35 can help me on that. I wonder what happened to the Denny's haven't heard about them in years.

Also in these Mall pic's is a shot of Bob Hurleys #04 it was a Walker single rail springer with swinging shackles on the rear. don't know if David Jones remembers but we kept this car at his house for a while, Jarvis and I were helping Hurley a little, and if I remember right Bob Brotherton built the motor it was a pretty nice car and Bob did pretty good with it. A funny story about this car, Bob had installed a crotch strap but didn't want to weld anything on the chassis so he drilled a hole through the seat and bottom seat bar and put a BIG EYE BOLT through it and attached the strap to it, well one night in the heat going down the backstretch at OKC Bill Levecscy hopped Bob's LF and rolled the front end down as Bob slid off into the infield with no way to turn he hit that big light pole going into turn 3 center on at about a 100 MPH to dead stop in about a second. Well we ran over there and Jack Davis was trying to talk to Bob but he wasn't answering, his eye's were open and bulged out about 3 inches, he had a death grip on that wheel and was paralyzed stiff, after about 5 minutes he began to whimper a little. We had to unbolt the steering wheel and finally got the belts undone and removed his nuts from that eye bolt. He was in a sitting position lying on his back on the stretcher he couldn't straighten out, he was able to go home the next morning and Jack and I went to see him, when we rang the door bell Beverly answered and she let us in but told us not to make him laugh as it hurt him, she was broken down laughing so how in the hell were we not supposed to laugh, we went into the bed room and Bob was Spread Eagle in the bed with about 5# of ice on his nuts so of course Jack and I both broke out laughing at which time Bob used a few expliciates on us as he was laughing to, his nuts were swollen bigger then those #9 fist's of Stan Schoenburgs black and blue man I know they hurt. You can bet that eye bolt was gone before he got in the car again!!!!!!!!!!

Ran into Paul Marten's at the Fairgrounds Friday night, he had purchased an old car and a few parts, I talked to him about some of his prize cars it's great that there are guys out there saving theses old cars, may make a trip up to his place to look at a few of them soon, I'm still contemplating building a replica of the #13 or #76 I just don't want to start it until I know I have time to finish it. My 2nd dilemah is whether to build exact copy or use current Rear Ends , Steerings etc, I still believe 1 of the old Super design's with current technoligie would be very competitive!!!

David, Seen Paul Marten's as well Friday night as he stopped by the car and said he bought an ol Frame from up in Edmond and ask me if I had heard of the guy name lettered on the hood and cannot remember it but did not recognize the name , was good to see Paul.

Those are a couple of tough delimah's time and then which direction do you go with your project, down the road when I stop having so much fun as I am right now racing, That 98 non downtube Stealth is on my agenda to restore down the road, just glad I kept all the essentials, Aero Dynamics Bird Cages and and Stealth Torsion Arms and the old Style Midget tank and driveline and wing tree stuff from Stealth, just wish I would have kept the short Splined Rearend that I originally had in it, but sold it to help pay for a long spline.

Hey guys been a while. Been busier than hell.

Guy called yesterday needing a trans part, when he showed up it was no other than Les Lusk!! Enjoyed about a half hour with him talking old school stuff!

How about that picture up there of Horace with that air tank. That is good stuff.

JD, if you need some Stealth stuff, get ahold of Ernie. We are running the 95" non downtube right now. This car has never been bent, we got it from Wayne & it is a good piece. Anyway Ernie has a lot of Stealth parts if you need anything.

See you guys friday!
