Not to bash you or anything but I thought I saw on here or heard that the car shows in the past were not as succesful as ones would hope. I do subscribe to the sprint car and midget magazine and the magazine has a program where open wheel driver in the area go to the schools and talk about how important it is to stay in school.

Overall, I agree. If nothing else drivers could drive around town with the cars on the trailers during the week. I remember when I was a kid when I saw a car on a tralier I would also get excited.

Dayum you J.D., you too kmy 2 cents topic (I am for the 9-Ogle, not 4-Ogle so no rant).

I kinda figured that there would be nobody left in charge of the Booster Club this year but that is another story and another topic that I will not discuss with anybody. If you have been around this deal long enough you get the sense on things. The first clue was when the lovely Leta Patterson said she was done after this year as she found something other than racing.

I don't have a dog in this fight. All I have is this website that is viewed and supported by 8/10ths of the people out at SFS (true fact I would believe). So all I can do on this end is to try to get the ball rolling with thoughts and hopefully imput from others. Here are my thoughts, for what it's worth, from what I see and what I have seen at other tracks.

I have noticed that there are mostly people from one or two divisions out there doing something during the races. My opinion is that each division should have a representitive. That representitive, be it wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, sister, brother or whatever of a driver in that division, be in charge for that group of drivers. For example, and this is only an example, that Joe Wood, Jr.s mother is in representing the super sprint drivers. She would get together with somebody from each ORA registered super sprint team and get other mothers, daugthers, sisters, girlfriends, boyfriends or whatever to get out and sell 50/50 tickets, programs, pictures or do some sort of fundraising when that division has the Friday night off. The next week would be the representitive for the class that is off that Friday night to get volunteers to do the same. Then that happens each week. When the ORA has their meetings, each representitive from each division will also attend the meeting as well as as many others to sit and discuss where everybody is at as far as the fund raising. They go through their ideas, thoughts and concerns to get an idea on what all is going on.

There wouldn't really have to be a Booster Club president but maybe a secretary in charge of the point fund money and do bookkeeping on what is going on. Each division would have a representitive, that should be enough.

The Booster Club has been around as long as I can remember and I have been going out there amost every year since 1969. The Booster Club has always been a fixture and that should not end here and now. If you all care about the history of Fairgrounds Speedway
(I actually hate the name State Fair Speedway) then you would want to do what you can to uphold the tradition on what other mothers, daugthers, sisters, brothers wifes and girlfriends have done in years past.

From my understanding, ORA drivers have a certain number of meetings that they need to attend in order to be recognised at the banquet. I feel at least one member of those drivers should do something AT LEAST once a month to help contribute. There should be no reason that Fairgrounds Speedway shouldn't have one of the largest weekly point funds in the country. There is no excuse why this isn't the case and all of you who race or have somebody involved with Fairgrounds Speedway should stop and really think this over.

That is IF you enjoy the point fund check that you receive and care about the history of Fairgrounds Speedway.

Thy could try and stand up to Lanny on behalf of the racers for a start........Oh wait we are talking arout the ORA. Sorry, My bad!!!!!

As GREAT of a job as all of the ladies do we should let them conduct the meetings and go to Lanny on whats decided by the racers rather than the old retired "never shits" do it.

Just my 1/2 a cent!!!!

Good luck with that. I tried to organize a car show last year and interest was virtually non-existant. I had a location, date, and even a few sponsors for prizes and as well as I can remember, there were only 2 or 3 other drivers/owners interested.

Ya I'll tell you firsthand how "stand-up" Ora is (isn't). About ten years ago I let them use one of our warehouses for a swapmeet. I didn't ask for any rent or utility payments only that they bought insurance for the event. I called my agent and it was 300.00 or so dollars. They said they had thier own deal and would get it handled. The day of the meet the never produced any proof, People had thier stuff thier overnight and then the meet was in progress and still no proof. They came up with a "name" of the agent who was covering it but no letter. To cover my own ass incase of anything I spent money out of my own pocket to insure thier event.

I guess what i am saying is do thay do anything for the racer other than programs and the banquet?

I think first step before any little website is to have a mandatory ORA meeting asap for all involved AND a representative with each driver is also to attend. Have either one big meeting amongst all to let everybody know what is going on for 2008 as far as drivers are concerned and to let it be known that, as of right now, the booster club is just about dead. There needs to be discussions amongst all the drivers together as all of you are all "one" there at the track. Everybody needs to do their part and they also need to speak their mind with ideas and thoughts. With lots of imput, alot of things can be accomplished and new, fresh ideas are almost a certain.

This message board is always and always has been open for any and everybody and the ORA is no different. Somebody needs to take the lead and post here a reminder about ORA meetings as not everybody is in the know about what is going on. You ORA people are more than welcomed to email me if you need something put in papers or on my front page about any special events your planning for the public to attend (like car shows, cookouts, etc.) Remember, only about 7 out of 10 people have the internet (if that much) so hitting newspapers is almost a must. I would be more than happy in assisting in getting the word out.

Those are just some thoughts from an "outsider" who is looking at it from both a fans standpoint and somebody who has ideas. Hope this can be usefull, If not, so I tried.

You have some good ideas. To get the public awareness, you need to get some publicity. One thing the media likes is a big event for charity. Combine a few things together for one big event like a car show/chili cookoff where half of the proceeds go to whatever charity you guys can decide on, the other half goes to the drivers point fund. Call every news station and let them know about the event, get a popular radio station to broadcast live, and don't forget to put a big add in the newspaper. You can even put flyers up at different places. Location also plays a big role. See about using a section of one of the malls parking lots or other popular place. That way if people didn't hear about it, then they might just stop by and see what's going on.

I'm just trying to give some ideas on how to get things going.

Kinda of going off what Christina said.

About two years ago they had the Oklahoma BBQ championship at Bass Pro. I was working down in Bricktown at that time and had no idea what was going on but you could not find parking places b/c everyone wanted a taste of the BBQ and the contestests ran out of BBQ by ten and I think they opened up to the public at eight. All the time I wanted to get over there and try some but never could. I have that image stuck in my head now of the amount of people and I pay attention to the radio hoping to catch the next time they have one.

I thought about somthing in regards to having the cars being towed around. Have like a points system or somthing like that devolped to benifit the guys that do it. It could even go as far as the cars sitting out in front of businesses. Bascially, b/c of this I know where the Shell Lube is that sponorsed Gastineau b/c of the car siting outside.

wtf?

Bobcat is trying to get awareness going on ORA issues so that a decent point fund can still remain at the best show in the state (SFS). The promoter here doesn't do much (if anything) for it - although he can be accreditted with doing a couple things right. hey I'll be damned - I admitted Lanny can do something right. wow. weird.

but anyhow - Bobcat is trying to highlight a REAL issue - which is more than what you or most others are doing. And he expresses it sometimes in an extreme way - which I think kicks ass. but thats also aside from the point. if folks like JD don't ever discuss it and propose new ideas - then nothing ever changes. I can see what Neighbors is sayin - everyone has heard a few siuations that did not speak very highly for the ORA - but from an outside perspective - the ORA exists to serve the racers........so those who become disenchanted or unsatisfied should speak very loudly about it - do something to insure it may not happen again. Crap thing happen with the ORA - but everyone just gripes about it instead od trying to take part in changing it. If the ORA ain;t workin for ya - work with others to start something else. I mean - something is better than nothing ain;t it?

Enid Mini Champ - in a post where someone is trying to get a real race related issue discussed - whats your point in stoppin by and callin people morons? I mean - do you actually have any serious thoughts on the issue..........?

If you have never been a member of the ORA, then shut the FUCK UP cause your talking out of your ass. Stay in your own LITTLE MINI STOCK WORLD. I bet 100 to 1 you could'nt hit your ass in a REAL Race Car.

Bet that's what your wife or girlfreind says too, Mini (weenie) 1

good ideas. anyone who agrees should voice so at next ORA meetin. I like your idea about Pole Position. it really is original. I think it would have immediate benefits for ALL involved. Seriously - I would even go if they held those meetings at PP. Just to listen in on the goings-ons and then run over some "real" race car drivers on the track. Benficial carnage I'll call it.

But really good and potent ideas there Bobcat. You should move forward on em and talk to members and management.

Sorry kids to drop the F bomb, I would normally never do that. But it seemed in this situation it was needed. I appoligize to everyone now for speaking what's on my mind.
