Hardtopdave - sorry you feel this way or interpreted my post as fact - as it is just my opinion. An opinion no more important than others; but, never the less an opinion formulated and revised over or as a result of 56 years of attending my favorite pasttime!
From a boy in a push truck with his father, to just going everywhere with him to races as fans, to helping on a pretty darn good team for over 12 years, to now just going back to attending with my dad - while trying to pass on my love of the sport to my grandson.
Reality is young folks will not attach to anything over 3.5-4 hours much less 5-6 hours as was this past Monday. My dad and i had this discussion and he asked what is different than when "I had you sitting in the grandstands at Selinsgrove when the fog rolled in on a Friday night about 2:30-3am in the morning" (I believe the promoter at the time was Mr. Livelsberger????)....
What is different..... well one we as kids didn't complain, two we didn't have phones to call the folks you met at the track - we caught up at the track, we played in the dirt - ran and jumped on the banks behind the bleachers - you see that was our social time or growth so to speak......
My life has not been miserable it has been a great ride - aided by the sport of Sprint Car racing....what is worrisome to me is the potential for the continued decline of a sport I love because people are to sensitive to reflect - or right away someone is miserable or angry when offering an observation/opinion.
For the record not being a fan of someone is a lot different than disliking.....not being a fan means i still attend as many races as possible loving the action and shaking my head at some of the stuff uttered during down time....you see it it is not me they have to worry about getting back to the track as i am coming for the love of the sport.
Not being a fan of track prep 5 hours into is a lot different than disliking steve.
Quite the contrary i respect them both as they work hard and i believe are professional....as professionals reflection is a prerequisite.
