The best of both worlds!!  now put a 50k bonus up to anyone who wins both..lol.. although the non wing guys would not stand much of a chance.. Great show for race fans!! have to applaud WoO and USAC for making this happen...

Saturday, May 1st, 1982 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Jim DePalma Promoted the USAC v WoO as the Stroh's Challenge Dream Race.

Getting Ted Johnson, Roger McCluskey and Bruce Walkup all together ont his deal like Gentelmen, must have been no easy task.

The 12-Lap Event went down as follows:

Stroh’s Challenge Dream Event (12 Laps)

1. Jack Hewitt (USAC) $2,700;

2. Kenny Schrader (USAC) $1,500;

3. Danny Smith (WoO) $800;

4. Sammy Swindell (WoO) $800;

5. Tom Bigelow (USAC) $1,500;

6. Rich Vogler (USAC) $1,500;

7. Gary Bettenhausen (USAC) $1,500;

8. Larry Rice (USAC) $$1,500;

9. Doug Wolfgang (WoO) $800;

DNF-10. Steve Kinser (WoO) $800;

DNF-11. Bobby Marshall (WoO) $800;

DNF-12. Dean Shirley (WoO) $800.

Team USAC overwhelmingly beat the WoO 50-29 in lowest cumultive team scoring earning the meaty share of the $15,000 purse.

Qualifying held earlier that day...

USAC Silver Crown:
1. Larry Dickson, Conroy 18, 32.845 / 109.00 MPH

WoO Sprint Car

1. Rick Ferkel, Morgan 0, 20.970 / 128.709 MPH (New Track Record)

The Features held on sunday were won by...

WoO (40 Laps)

1.  Danny Smith $6,000 (His 4th career WoO win)

USAC Silver Crown (100 Laps)

1. Larry Dickson $9,500 (His 2nd career USAC Silver Crown win and 1st ever win for Car Owners Joe Conroy and Ollie Feuerstein)

It was a blast to look into this event as the names of the drivers during that weekend are damn near ALL the heros across Sprint Car Racing.  Those who witnessed, it had to have been a dream come true.

So effectively they have comined the traditional early spring USAC date and absorbed it into the WoO weekend.
Looking at the schedule this has to be an all time low number of sprint car shows at the Big E. Basically 1 sprint event per month and none in August. Hopefully they add the BOSS series on Family Fun night in May.
