I find it very amusing that some do not like the facts when presented the facts!
Just remember, this will have a devestating effect on race tracks as well. The insurance companies will have a field day and we will lose many small tracks that can't afford the updates that will be mandated.

what updates? like staying in your car? yeah that's an expensive update, people need to stop trying to come up with new problems that will come out of this

I didnt say it was not true - perhaps it will be confirmed by the investigation.
These "scary mandated updates" could be avoided if the tracks had a reputation of actually enforcing some guidelines for sportsmanlike behavior.
When I was a kid, the black flag was used all the time to cut the bullshit...WHEN was the last time you saw a black flag used at sprint car race?
DQ or suspend offenders and the competitors will know it will not be tolerated! SIMPLE AS THAT
I attended a race at Kutztown Speedway two weeks back - they demonstrated a NO BULLSHIT POLICY that night and I suspect this is how they run the place weekly. They came right on the mic and gave guys one warning, and the drivers got with the program.
NASCAR rednecks love their "have at it boys" to keep people watching their crappy racing product...when has an oper wheel division like F1 or Indy ever issued a statemrnt like that?

More than anything, I'm worried about the civil side of things. Let's hypothetically say the investigation ends, and the findings show Tony to have done nothing wrong. Nothing criminal, malicious, just a bad accident with a guy out of his car and a driver in the wrong place at the wrong time. That still leaves the door open for a civil suit by the Ward family. The burden of proof in a civil case is easier than a criminal case. If the Ward family successfully sues in civil court after Tony was cleared on the criminal side, that opens the door for bad things down the road.
Imagine a slider at Eldora comes up short and puts somebody into the fence with fatal results. The driver that threw the slider obviously had no criminal ill intent, but the precedent might have been set civilly by this Stewart case. Is this driver now open to a civil lawsuit by the deceased driver's family? This is a hypothetic precedent that the sprint car community cannot afford.
Things could get ugly in the coming months. This whole deal has wiped any ounce of excitement for the rest of the season away from me. Hopefully once its over, the excitement I've always felt for sprint car racing comes back. Hopefully.

wrongful death is already mentioned in the local NY press coverage
the sheriff / justices will have to differentiate between a "racing incident" which takes place when the green flag is out...and an "on track incident" like this is being characterized.
perhaps this is why there is law enforcement present at the tracks in many states - noticed that when I lived in NC

I'm also talking about lighting, fencing, and other stuff like that. Most of these tracks will not be able to afford those mandates as well.

I don't believe that in this matter the civil suit would ever go to court. If the family does want something I have a strong feeling it will be settled long before it ever would get to a court. By coming to a setttlement out of court it would be private and the public would not know how much the settlement was for. An out of court settlement would then also not set a court precedent.

Reality is nobody wins. A talented young man lost his life. A hugely successful driver has been marked by his death both professionally and personally. I am a Tony fan but am no way defending him because I will admit (unlike 99% of America) that I wasnt there and have no way of really knowing what happened by watching the dark video. All I can tell is there was close racing, one driver lost his cool and somehow another driver hit him. There is no need to over think it. Nobody will probably ever know what really happened, including Tony. So I encourage you, instead of speculating and guessing, spend some time praying for those involved. No matter which side of the fence your on. Because like I said, nobody wins in this. And if raing really is a big family, then it is time we start acting like it.

I really do feel for that family. This is a horrific ordeal that I never want to hear about again. Period.
It ruined my Saturday night down in Knoxville. As word spread through the pits, grandstand, etc, people were generally more quiet, reserved, and puzzled.
The north campground normally has a pretty good party atmosphere after the races. It was much more somber, quiet, and eerily peaceful Saturday night. We sat with our campground neighbors, quietly drinking what was left of our beer, half speechless. A little bit of the sprint car fan in me died that night.

sdhuntandfish I agree with you 100%. Like you my enthuisasm for this year is gone and I worry about the future impact this tragedy will have on race tracks going forward. It can only be bad.

Kevin jr's intentions were to intimadate Tony.
It looks as if Kevin jr. thought he could jump onto the side nerf and hold onto the top wing.
Maybe he figured he was going to ride around and give Tony a lecture, but it didn't work out like it does on TV.
Sad news non the less, and a young man had to loose his life to be the exsample for generations to come.
Hope drivers will now understand why it's important to stay in your racecar until safety crew gets there and secure's the area.
R.I.P Kevin jr. you will be greatly missed.

so far we have heard from tony's fan club...ward's family...speaking for each driver...but not Tony himself.
would be too much for his supporter's to ask him to speak for his actions himself?
or perhaps that is what Bubba has been directed to do...get TS side of the story out there?
I am hearing tomorrow is the day Nascar will speak.

Why should Tony speak? Because a bunch of people on the internet what to know his side of the story? His legal team likely has a plan and they will speak when the time is right.
I'm trying to not have a horse in this race but based on what I heard the Ward family should have said nothing in this time of greif. They certainly didn't help the situation from their side of the fence.
