Went to 12 hours of Sebring back in '62. Not a race, more a spectacle. Was thrilling standing behind a hay bale about 4 feet from the big strait, with Ferrari's and and other exotic machines going by at 180 plus. My old mans friend wangled a press pass for me, as a jouurnalist from Farm Journal, no less. Got to rub elboes with some famous types, Sterling Moss, Jim Hall, Phil Hill and most of the top drivers and owners of that era. Was a sports car junkie at the time, drove a Triumph TR3, wore a jaunty cap. In those days sports car types all waved at other sports cars. Guess we thought we were the elite of the motoring set, but hey, it was a blast. That was a whole differant world from the world of sprints and dirt tracks.
