I stay on the outskirts of Charlotte, but there are hotels closer to the track.
There are alot more non-racing things to do in Charlotte, not that you'll have a ton of time. The racing sometimes starts as early as 5, and by the time you check out the pits and buy your t-shirts etc... it doesn't leave you with a lot of downtime.
It's a phenomenal show, the track has gotten alot better the last couple of years and all 3 divisions put on a great show. Last year's sprint feature on Friday was maybe the best race I saw all year.
