WIRE TO WIRE FOR BRYAN CLAUSON AT PERRIS
By Lance Jennings

PERRIS, CA – NOVEMBER 7, 2012… Starting on the outside of the front row, Noblesville, Indiana's Bryan Clauson led all 30-laps to claim last Friday's main event at Perris Auto Speedway. The $5,000 "Budweiser Oval Nationals" opening night triumph was the fifth career Amsoil USAC/CRA victory for the USAC National point leader as Jon Stanbrough, Dave Darland, Tracy Hines, and Nic Faas followed Clauson to the checkered flag.

Piloting the #7 CTR/BCI/Curb/Agajanian Maxim, Bryan Clauson not only scored the victory but earned valuable points towards the USAC National championship. While the box score may read that the Friday feature was dominated by Clauson, it was not an easy victory by any means. After taking command from pole sitter Thomas Meseraull, Bryan managed to shake free from Nic Faas, make his way through slower traffic, and fight off late challenges from Dave Darland and Jon Stanbrough.

As an added wrinkle to the Oval Nationals, the top six in points were locked into Saturday's 40-lap finale. With the victory, Clauson left Friday's action as the point leader and would start sixth in a special dash that set the first three rows of the finale. Earlier in the program, Bryan qualified fifth out of the forty-four cars in attendance and scored third in his heat race.

Avon, Indiana's Jon Stanbrough mounted a late race charge and had to settle for second on this night after starting eighth. Driving the Leer Racing #21X DRC, Stanbrough timed in eighth quick overall and placed second in his heat race. Running fourth in Oval Nationals points, Jon set himself up to contend for Saturday's 40-lap victory.

Piloting Jeff Walker's #11 Jeff's Jam-It-In Storage / Hoosier Tire Maxim, "The People's Champion" Dave Darland of Lincoln, Indiana scored third and earned the program's LRB Inc. Race Products Award. Qualifying second and becoming the fourth driver to join the "15 Second Club" at Perris Auto Speedway, the veteran driver was second in event points and also won the Saldana Racing Products Heat Race #2.

Wilkinson, Indiana's Tracy Hines raced to fourth in the 30-lap feature after starting seventh. Driving his #4 MP Environmental Services / Schoenfeld Headers DRC, the former USAC Champion was seventh quick in time trials, fourth in his heat race, and ended his night fifth in the Oval Nationals point chase.

After running second for many laps, Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, California claimed fifth at the checkered flag. The pilot of Mark Alexander's #4X Scott Sales Company / Competition Suspension Inc. Spike qualified third overall, won the DJ Safety Heat Race #3, and claimed fourth in event standings.

Yorba Linda, California's Austin Williams earned the night's Keizer Wheels / Ringers Gloves "Hard Charger / Best Passing Job" honors with a thirteenth place run after starting twenty-third. Driving Jack Jory's #2 John Jory Corporation / AMA Plastics Spike, Williams qualified twenty-fifth and ran fourth in his heat race.

Mike Spencer of Temecula, California earned his thirteenth Sander Engineering / Rod End Supply Fast Time Award of the Year. Piloting Ron Chaffin's #50 Madera Produce / Grubstake Mini Storage Maxim, the USAC/CRA point leader was third in his heat race, ran seventh in the feature, and earned sixth in event points.

Sullivan, Indiana's Chase Stockon drove the family owned #32 Terre Haute First National Bank / Superior Tank & Trailer DRC to victory in the Extreme Mufflers Heat Race. The young driver qualified sixteenth in his first Perris start and ran tenth in the main event after starting fifteenth.

"Super" Rickie Gaunt of Torrance, California won the SBI Fuel Systems / Integra Racing Shocks Heat Race #4. Driving David Miller's #66 Tom Roberts Designs / Barnes Systems Inc. Eagle, the former SCRA Champion was fourteenth quick and scored ninth in the feature after starting thirteenth.

Hollister, California's Ryan Bernal claimed the Circle Track Performance Heat Race #5. Piloting Keith Ford's #73 King Racing Products / A&A Precision Machine Spike, the Santa Maria track champion timed in fifteenth fast overall and scored twenty-fourth in the main event after a flip ended his night.

Troy Rutherford of Ojai, California raced Dwight Cheney's #42 ParkerStore of Phoenix / Sander Engineering DRC to the 12-lap Competition Suspension Inc. / Diversified Machine Inc. Semi-Main win. The former VRA Sprint Car Champion qualified twelfth, placed fifth in his heat race, and scored twelfth in the main event.

The Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series would like to thank Hoosier Tire, Circle Track Performance, Competition Suspension Inc., DJ Safety, Diversified Machine Inc., Extreme Mufflers, Hilborn Fuel Injection, Integra Racing Shocks, Keizer Wheels, LRB Inc. Race Products, Ringers Gloves, Rod End Supply, SBI Fuel Systems, Saldana Racing Products, and Sander Engineering for their support.
