I can't believe that Knoxville nationals was not live on speed like it has been in years.... Fans have given knoxville Iowa alot in years gone by and to me the races and fans have made knoxville what it is today and to not give back due to there belief that by televising the race people won't go there is a joke.......it's the economy that is not allowing people to go because if I could afford it I would rather see it live than on tv, especially 3 weeks later.. What do you think.....PS.... Especially when this year has been some of the best racing there in years..... Would of bought more fans there next year in my eyes...

First the nationals have not been live the last several years. Second they dont owe you ANYTHING! its a business and your a damn fool to think otherwise. If you want a organization to pay you back for what you put in maybe you should become more involved in policitics.

It is a two week delay --- Sunday of Labor Day at noon EDT. Not the most ideal timeslot - but it's better than not seeing it at all.... take what you get and like it.... just a suggestion...

I bet you really hated it back in the 80's and early 90's when TNN would film the nationals and wait until the winter to show it. I sure bet that drove many fans away!

From the looks of the gluttonous nature of the folks I saw, it was hard to tell money was tight… This tightwad however busted out Osky/Knoxville for just under $400-of that-$200 was just in Lodging. Still managed to buy four shirts at cost, one sweat, renewed Hall of Fame Membership, $20 worth of 50/50 during the week and one pack of $8 smokes. There are ways to do Knoxville on the cheap-one has to be well planned, frugal, motivated and responsible.

So Hawg wild must work for the track.....lol....every one bags nap car but least you can see there races LIVE every weekend,,,,,all im saying is if we want this sport to get as big, the biggest races should be LIVE......And we all know Knoxville can AFFORD IT,,,,And if I believe I'm right , they have been live up until 2009, then they came up with the excuse it was keepin people away.....I agree they owe nothing but with the economy the way it is give a little to get a lot is all I'm sayin....

it cost alot to televive a race for 3 hrs. the racetrack has to come up with mpney, TV no longer gets the paid advertisement, the track would have to find them, The days of TNN is overo

Sprint Car Racing and live TV do not mix well ... the fans at the track don't like the sometimes necessary TV induced delays and an extended/unfortunate red flag could make a live race run over its allocated time-slot ... or a blown RR or something could FUBAR a live telecast's slot.

But ... TWO weeks' delay does indeed seem a bit LONGgggg.... perhaps 'Next-Day' Delay would be better ....WTF - if NHRA can do it - so can the WoO.

Live TV the way SPEED does it sucks.

But there is NO excuse for not letting Turn2 Media do Saturday night. Not having it live didn't help the crowd, which was only about 18,000 on Saturday night, anybody who tells you a different number, including BillW is full of s***. You can't believe anything that comes out of the fairboard office.

Don't give me the nonsense about a down economy, either. The suites were full. Hotel rooms in the Des Moines area were almost impossible to find (and they were expensive),.People spend money until the cost overrides the entertainment value, a trend which is hard, if not impossible to overcome, given today's competition for the entertainment dollar.

Don't penalize your fan base for your problems. Don't blame your customers for your failures.

Live video coverage isn't the problem. TV is a problem because it's not about covering the race.

Why not ban stop KNIA radio coverage? Drop the live results coverage on the Knoxville website? Stop Kendra Jacobs' tweeter page?

Knoxville and your 'foward thinking" fairboard controllers...you have a problem and it's not live media coverage that's killing your event. You are not renewing your fan base. I'll bet 50% of your fan base is going to be dead inside ten years. From what I've seen, you need to to put in more bathrooms and hire Alzheimers care if don't want to go after a younger base.

Good luck, you're going to need it!

I don't guess about 8,000 extra folks in the area for the Republican Caucuses in Ames, plus the Iowa State Fair, plus The Nationals, plus Osky early in the week, plus all the regular tourists going thru needing rooms,it was a real mess, plus I know people who got a five night pkg. on Tuesday morning for the two of them for $810.00 and were happy to get it,and they left after the A to go back to Las Cruces, when they had a paid for air condition place, evidently they had a problem with some fans on Friday night and got into it again on Saturday so they bailed out, several restaurants in Des Moines got caught short on food and had to get a booster shipment on Saturday,A.M.As for as it being telecast,I'm one who thinks it should stay as it is now,no live t.v.Let them sofa racers suffer for awhile.

I guess I'm falling for 'the joke' cause it makes complete sense to me that a good deal of people (500-1000) would decide to not attend cause they can just save $, sit on their butts at home, & watch the race live on TV. I rarely go to a packer game, because of the convenience/economic factor involved. well that & I can't stand being surrounded by that many uppity, well-to-do white people. but I'll put up with them for a sprint car race! just wanted to mention, this was my first time at the nat's, & I believe everybody involved did a great job putting on that show. not really sure wtf it is people are complaining about. I never had to wait more than 2 minutes to use a restroom the entire 4 days. & I rather enjoyed all the old farts, makes you realize how much respect people have for that race, continuing to attend, year after year. I hope to be one of those old farts some day. "this is my 25th nat's!"

I'm sure one of your 3 or so satellite dishes or your cable box will be able to pick up SPEED and then you can watch the race on your big screen TV. Just be happy that you get to see it! The economy goes bad and even more people want everything to just be handed to them on a silver platter. If the race is that big of a deal to you, maybe this year you can put a little money aside each week so you can go... instead of complaining about seeing it 3 weeks later!!!

" Let them sofa racers suffer for awhile."

Yep, blame the customer.

There's a reason people would rather watch Turn2 Media coverage. Might be distance, cost,no desire to deal with the nonsense, whatever. At least with Turn2, the track could get a cut and it cost's very little to put on.

If the fairboard is worried that live, "in house" coverage is hurting the crowd, then maybe they need tore- evaluate what they are doing to attract fans into the house. A lot of people like the races but don't see the entertainment value vs. the cost.

Again, call potential customers a name and blame them for not being there. The point is that people don't see the value of being there for many reasons but would still like to see the final night. Don't want to show the final night? Then those are potential fans lost for the future...or maybe fans that used to attend but can't or don't want to or don't think it's worth it.

They've got a good thing going with Turn2...all they have to do is use it.

so, you're saying people would completely give up being a fan of sprint car racing, because they couldn't watch the saturday nat's program live, in real time? or just give up on making an effort to attend knoxville? not sure I'm following you.

They still get to see the final night! If you are talking about potential fans, I doubt they really care if it is live? If people don't want to attend or don't think it is worth it... why should they complain about seeing it a few weeks late?

IMO If you can't go (but want to), you should be happy enough listening to it live (at least you get something). If you don't want to or don't think its worth it, don't complain about not getting to see it live when it is still going to be broadcast!

As a ticket buying fan, I like it tape delayed. Generally, that reduces down time for TV interview and commercial requirements. Of course, they proved that wrong on Saturday as there was plenty of downtime between races.
