too many people that think that job pays a ton of $$$ as well.....
I would bet Cappi has never been paid over $45,000 a year for that job (and they don't have company paid health benefits either)...
I sincerely hope that the fairboard takes a good hard look at someone from the outside of the racing business (or if inside, one that has new fresh ideas and PROMOTES).
My top 3 picks (in no particular order) at the moment would be:
Toby Kruse (promoter, announcer, industry knowledge)
Tommie Estes (former racer, official, has raced and worked with major sanctioning bodies)
Craig Armstrong (former General Manager of Iowa Speedway in Newton) - was GREAT at promoting that speedway to the general audience (not just the die-hard racefans), and since he left, their promotion has gone down, as have the crowds so far this season (2010 Nationwide Race had 51,000 in attendance last August, race in May had 26,000; 2010 Indycar Race had 42,000 in attendance, 2011 had 35,000)
My only hope is that whomever the Fairboard hires that they give them a 3-5 year contract and let htem implement NEW IDEAS instead of hamstringing them by voting down all new ideas at the board meetings and basically making them a "face" instead of a "manager".

"I would bet Cappi has never been paid over $45,000 a year for that job", but the bookkeeper was taking home a lot more than that.

Johnny Gibson!

I second that and I know Johnny reads these. I have always thought if he ever decided to hang his hat as the voice of the outlaws (although the outlaws would never be the same without him) that he would make a great promoter. With everything he has seen and done, I bet he has a few great ideas on what works and does not work.

Estes and Armstrong were contacted but decided not to pursue the position due to salary limitations and lack of any real control over anything.
Kruse would be good but he's not likely interested.
Frankly, anyone with a decent background likely wouldn't want the position, which pays only $28k per year and has to deal with the Fair Board. Would YOU want to work under 24 guys whose ringleaders are Robuck and Rankin?
Anybody who would want the position, or even strongly consider it, is either desparate or just plain dumb.

I dont post on here much and dont want to start anything but when i saw a post about Steve Beitler would be good at Knoxville I had to comment. Are you in your right mind? Have you ever been to Skagit Speedway?? He is about making himself rich and has forgotten where he has come from. He doesnt care about the racers at all. if you think this is a lie ask almost any racer who runs there. only 40 cars for a 40,000 dollar to win race?? something im missing here? there were alot of cars in Medford for the kws race that turned around because they didnt wanna run Skagit because the place has gone down hill. Dont try and tell me its the economy either, 9 hour trip from Medford to Skagit for 40,000 grand and they are turning around. How he ever got promoter of the yr is beyond me. Used to tell the racers if you dont like the way he does things to go somewhere else, guess what they have. Sorry about my rant, just my 2 cents

The last thing the raceway needs is someone that will have a degree in criminal justice!!!
They need someone with an accounting degree and prior audit experience.

Wierd, the Fairboard members I spoke to told me that they hadn't contacted anyone as of yet and wanted to see what interested parties were out there...
But then again, what would they know they are just the decision makers....
As far as the 28k figure, that is laughable. At one time, I'm sure that is what it paid (probably in the early 90's before Cappi retired from teaching (which was his FULL-TIME JOB until 1992 (I was in the last government class he taught before he retired)), but you are never going to hire someone for that when you have at least 3 employees that work for the General Manager that make 40k and above..
