John Sernett (in the orange 14) was lucky he didn't go through the fence too -- he hit a TON!! It is kind of amazing there wasn't a massive fire either, as Sernett's fuel cell came flying off upon impact with the wall and sprayed methanol everywhere.

I was there that night. The most amazing thing about the whole deal is him running the same car the next night and if I'm not mistaken didn't he win the B main?

He won the D main from 5th and got 12th in the C main from 21st. There were alot of up and coming names in that C too.
Same year Wolfgang did alphabet soup.

That video never gets old! Was the fence metal or wooden at the time?

They didn't start replacing the board fence until around '94 - so it was definitely the board fence in '88. I believe Jones hit the fence right where it divided from front stretch fence to board fence - likely the weakest point.

Holy shit that was a mess!! I remember a bad one just about in that same area back in the 90's also but can't remember it to well, seems like a car got through the fence though over by the grass area. It was an Outlaw show and for some reason Brian Paulis or Paul McMahon was in it???

I believe there was a race where it was either Brian Paulis or Lance Blevins RAMPED up another crashed cars wing and over the turn 4 fence.
Oh, and ofcourse the old I, I think Jerry Reichart jr. flip over the turn 4 wall. I remember it cause I was in turn 4, the scary one of that one was how hard the side of the drivers cage hit the wall coming back down.

I remember the Motter car going over turn 3 wall by the scoreboard in the early 90s, Not sure who was driving though. I was there the night Reichert went over turn 4. I do remember a bad one on the front stretch past the flag stand though that I thought a car (seems like brian paulus) got through the fence but now that I think about it a little more It may have just been the front axle or a part of the carthat landed in the grass over by the restrooms.

One of my dad's friends decided not to go to a race one night and as he was driving by to think about coming up for the A main had someones RR land on the roof of his car, on the highway.

Haa! That would scare the crap out of you in your car. I seen a rear wheel one night take off over turn 2, maybe it was a visual thing but that thing looked like it was 1/4 mile in the air and heading way over hwy 14. I remember one night Doran Doty trying his hardest to come through the front stretch fence coming off of turn 1, I remember his tire slamming into the grandstands over around Section H about 28 rows up.. Luckily no one was sitting there.
