Nice to see ESS and King of the West series use the double file restarts this year. As a fan in the stands, this is great news. I would love to see PA, All Stars, Knoxville and others utilise this rule. It adds a tremendous amount excitement for the fans. Plus, this rule works well on the 1/2 miles where the cars get a little spread out.

I know the drivers hate it but in order for the promoters to pay a higher purse, they need more butts in the seats. Plus, the WoO didn't have that many issues with it last year. No different than the shanagins that happen with single files restarts.

I couldnt agree more. The King's royal was a great finish i believe solely because of the double file start. The Knoxville nationals were great last year regardless, but i would like to see this rule there anyways. I think butts in the seats should be the main goal. I think double file restarts has nothing but positive impact on this.

We have done it in Australia this season and it is the worst rule ever implemented.Battle to the front and then have a late restart and have a cowboy drive through you knocking you back several placings.....great deal!Oh and I am a spectator.

Both as a fan and as a car owner, I hate double file restarts. But that is just me. Never have liked them in any form of racing.

As a fan, I hated them @ every Outlaw event I saw last year.

IMO, double file restarts are even worse than single file, if one guy doesn't take off, everyone in that line (inside or outside) can lose multiple positions to the other row of cars. It's one thing to lose it to the guy that was running in the place benind you on the start, but you can lose it to someone that was running 5 or 7 spots behind you on the track in turn 4 when you're getting the green flag.

Plus, why would you want to tighten the field up for the first 2 laps of a restart? The real racing never begins until the leaders catch traffic (which you consequently put off another 4-5 laps when you restart double file instead of single file.

For the record, I think we need to dump the "cone" and go back to the way it used to be @ the big tracks. Wave the green flag as they enter turn 3 going down the backstretch and see who has the best "anticipation" of when the green is coming out. you can pass them high or low (plus, if you get stuck behind someone that is "sleeping", you can pass them and not lose so much ground to the leaders.

I love the double file restarts if for no other reason than to GET RID OF THE DAMN CONE ON THE FRONTSTRETCH. By the time the train goes by on the front straight, the leader is already coming out of 2 on a short track. Melt that thing down once and for all. Start the race when the leader goes in a single file formation anywhere on the backstretch, or double 'em up.

EDIT: I'm on board with the double file restarts, but I think the real problem is that damn two foot tall orange thing.

The only annoying thing is listening to uneducated fans complain when the leader goes first, even though before every single restart Johnny tells us the rule.

I like it in the WoO, but I don't know about it in the ESS. I don't know if some of them can handle it. The top guys can, but some of those less experienced guys...I don't know. Last year I was standing next to Dean Reynolds when he mentioned it about the WoO, and I said, I don't know if you want to do that with these guys, and he said "Oh no, definitely not" but I guess he didn't really mean that. And let Chuck Hebing do a double-file restart with his win it or wreck it style, just scary.
