Pete York #21 and Junior Taft #22. I will bet you they are already going over set ups for the new track.

We all sure did enjoy when Pistol Pete York would come to Joplin Mo at the Ozark Speedway on tuesday nights in 1967 in the #1 Champion Service Station Sedan. And then in 1968 in the #1 Hudson Oil Supermod ...
That picture above with Pete in the #1 Hudson Oil Super beside Buddy Cagle in #52,, i think it was takin at War Bonnet Raceway in OK in 1969 a Asphalt Sports car.track Now that brings back some good memorys....It was pretty wild watching the Supers turn right and left.
We sure did enjoy Pistol Pete York he was always tuff competetion. We would like to thank Pete for the great memorys, he was a fan favorite. Pete had alot of fans in the Joplin area and Tulsa and all the tracks he raced at. Our hearts and prayer go out to his family and loved ones.

Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

In 1968 Tulsa had a special 100 lap feature and Pete was in the number 1 car above, I think that Del Torraance owned the car and this was Pete's last year driving for him. Pete was in a minor wreck n the 100 lap race and they pulled in and fixed what they could but what amazed me was that the exhaust header on the outside was torn up and theyran without it. You could see the fire coming straight out of the head. I don't remember what Pete finished in this race , Buddy Cagle won it in the Zink car above that is next to Pete.

Have a question. I know in the early to late '60's we had a Hudson gas station here in Lawton where we bought gas for our go kart to race and mixed 2 cycle oil with the gas we bought which we called white gas. Now I think it is called unleaded gas. During this time Tulsa had Harbor gas stations and sponsored Jr. Taft and Pete York. My question is, was Hudson Oil Co. and Harbor Oil Co. the same or did one buy out the other?

I remember Voigt Oil, Highway Friends Oil, Workingmans Friend Oil, and there was 1 or 2 others. In the service station busines we referred to them as cut-throat stations. I believe they were owned by the same person from Kansas City. I believe it was a lady. I'm thinking Hudson was part of that same family? Anyone else remember who I'm thinking of. In the 60's alone there was dozen and dozen of the oil companies. Remember when, Champlin, Derby, Skelly, Fina, DX, Bay, Apco were common as Conoco/Phillips is today. Name some others.
