Okay it's the 50th Knoxville Nationals! I wonder if that deserves a fly over on Saturday night? Seems like the last couple years they haven't done it but it is cool as hell when they do! Makes you feel like your part of something really big and proud as hell to be a American.

I agree. I have been to football games in Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, NE, and they have fly overs and they are impressive. I have seen fly overs with Blackhawk Helicopters and they are unbelievable.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

IMHO I think the Nationals started losing it's personality & mystique when they brought the live broadcasts in.

There is a fly-over scheduled.

They had a fly over scheduled last year on Saturday and called it off at the last minute due to rain in the area.

The B2's are stationed 200 miles to the South, they fly over my work nearly every day, it would be cool to see one of those do one. It's my understanding that it's not too tough to get a flyby for a major sporting event.

B-52! living close to a U.S. Air Base most of my life I see these things pretty frequently , amazing they can even leave the ground! , The engine's noise is something you almost "know" the "ring" of and can predict what is flying overhead without looking,
Watching the burnt fuel exit the engines on take off is humorous, I worked in one of thier (B-52) hangers last week, just for shitz n giggles I walked off the wingspan , I stopped in the middle , im guessing 180' simply huge! Id love to know how much fuel that badboy consumes..

I'm not only an aircraft mechanic, but also an enthusiast... BUFF's (Big Ugly Fat Fuc**r) AKA B-52's are pretty damn cool. To think that they have been in service now for 55 years and are expected to last at LEAST another 30 years (80 years in service). They are relatively fuel efficient now, when you consider how bad they were with the old J57's that would "bang water" (water injection)....Talk about loud, those were horrendous. They burn around 14,500 lbs of fuel per hour (2,150 gallons) at max cruise.

water injection? for cooling the turbines? thanks for the info, ya, thier pretty amazing, most airmen around here are pretty proud of them, we see alot of window stickers of a B-52's (BUFF). comes with the territory I guess, Im glad I know thier real name now!
Ill try post some pics if I ever get a call back from a aircraft show I was possibly going to take my car too, wings n things ! I hope I can convince the local beer n wing's pub to show up !lol, anybody have some pics of sprinters on the runway/hanger/ect ? , I always liked those shots.

The Blackhawks the other year were awesome. There have been unofficial fly overs by a couple of Piper Cubs the last few years. They do not make a lot of noise but are fun to watch. Also, they keep them grounded if there are any official fly overs going on.
A covey of A-10's would be good, but I do not know if any are based nearby. There are some pretty cool videos posted on YouTube.

The water not only cooled, but more importantly, it increased the thrust by increasing the mass. It also made them VERY, VERY loud. Of course this is in the day of the turbojet (before the more efficient turbofan). A good friend of mine worked as a crew chief on BUFFs and retired as a crew chief of a B-2. He hated the B-2 and told me of a standard "saying" among Air Force mechanics. "When the last B-2 is taken to Davis-Monthan (the boneyard), the crew will return on a BUFF". And the sad thing is that it is true!
