Looking for a little help with lodging for the Nationals. Stayed in Newton last year and would like something better. Plan on arriving Sunday morning after Pevely. Staying till following Sunday. No worries driving 30 minutes to and from the track. Any suggestions??

We have been staying in West Des Moines for years...it is a little drive to the track but our hotel is next to the Jordan Creek Towne Center (large mall). We stay at Residence Inn which is like a condo with living room & full kitchen. If it rains you aren't cramped in a little hotel room. We setup putting tournament into coffee cups!!!

I would try Oskaloosa, (30 mins) or Pella (less than 30 mins) or maybe even Indianola (30mins). I'm not sure how available the hotel rooms are at that time of the year right now. If I was out of town I would try Indianola as it is 30 mins south of Des Moines where you can spend some money at the Jordan Creek like Mr Mac states. Oh yes, another option would be Altoona(35 mins) , which is just East of Des Moines, but has Bass Pro and a Casino.

I highly recommend staying in Pella...Beautiful clean town...Great meat market...Great bakery...Drive past the lake every day...People very friendly....Classic small American town.....15 miles from the track....

Relatively east to get a room in Pella from Sunday to Tuesday that week, much harder during Nationals. I stay in Pella until Wednesday, and then go to one of the hotels right by the Des Moines airport. It's about 35 miles from the track.

go through the chamber of commerce and they can help you find someone to stay with. We put a tent up every year in someboys yard and hang out with them. And if it's on the other side of town it's no big deal because you are always walking around and pretty busy.
I'd rather be in Knoxville.
