We choose this sport because it doesn't matter how old you are, young you are or gender, well fit or have a couple pounds to lose. Anybody can do this if they have the heart and passion. All people can't do that in stick and ball sports.

We are not in this to get rich. If we wanted to get rich we would spend the money we spend on our hobby at one of the hundred casinos this state has.

We don't dress up and go party with friends on the weekends. Instead, we are all in one cozey place at the same time having a good time. Be it before, during or after the races, we are amongst our true family and friends.

We are assessable to our fans after the races. No fence, no security guards blocking from access. We are all approachable and we are also somebodys idol , who cheers for us when things go good and are upset when things don't go so well.

We are never losers because you can't be a loser doing something that you love, that you enjoy, that keeps you off the streets or out of bars.

We all realize that racing is a dangerous sport. No pulled hamstrings, no beamballs, no helmet to helmet contact. Just a good chance that on any given night, something could be terribly wrong in what we do.

Our actions on and off the track have been and always will be micro-analyzed. There are those of us in no matter what we do, we will be scrutinised if we make a mistake. Even a small one.

We want to be in NASCAR and make the millions but we are not and more than likely never will be in NASCAR or the next Steve Kinser or Billy Moyer or Kelly Shryock. We are in no R&D program for Childress or Evernham or Stewart.

Our actions on and off the track are always watched because, whether we like it or not, we are in the public eye and in this day and age of finding fault, what we do will be known to others.

We all have family at the speedway and even compete against family each and every night. Family, in Gods word, should come first against all things material.

What would you be doing if you weren't racing? What would you be watching or attending if you weren't at the races? What drives you to this sport we all love weekend and week out? Why do you do this? Is this all worth it?

To put this plain and simple, this racing thing that I have come to love most all of my life has changed. Gone are the days where you can sit in the stands and cheer for your driver without being booed. The days were drivers hang out in the pits before and after the races, shake the hand of your fellow competitors and wish them good luck or telling them good job let me buy you a beer. We were taught in high school sports to "show class about yourself" (thank you baseball coach Jerry Long), play hard and at the end leave it on the field (track) and leave it alone. Gone also are the days where people can cheat and get away with it and nobody knows except your racing buddy who is doing the same thing.

People are watching you fellow race fans and drivers. It is that time in a generation where you are being watched in every move you make. What you did yesterday may not mean nothing to somebody today. What you do, what you say and how you act both on and off the track will be known by Monday morning on message boards and emails all across the country.

Kids and our young folks need idols in the worst way. The economy is bad enough without you trying to make a stupid move on the track to get that NASCAR ride. What you do physically and mentally does not necessarily affect that person but his or her family as well. What if it were you?

For once, show a little class about yourself both on and off the track. If your fast, give it hell. If it is a night you just don't have it, don't race so hard and let the person coming up behind you have his night as one day, sooner or later yours will come. If you can't race nicely or by the rules then don't do it at all. Everybody is watching.

Is it worth it this much to you? Think about it and show a lil class about yourself.

Oh and try something differnt for a change. Go up to your competitor or hate fellow race fan and shake their hand. Be the bigger person and have fun for a change.

Have a nice weekend won't you?

Come on over to our pits tomorrow night at Elk David. I will be where you interviewed me after the NCRA Sportmod race. We still know how to have a good time at the races no matter what happens on the track and we will have a ice cold beverage for ya. Sportmod #112

If more folks saw it that way the stands might be a little fuller as well as the pits.

David, I agree what you said. Although, I have seen you on here throw some drivers under the bus for having a good time in the pits after the races. You have even mentioned not giving them your business for they way they acted in the pits.

I did not mean to throw you under the bus but just calling a spade a spade.

If you beleive that then ok. I honestly did not mean to throw you under the bus. Just the driver you were talking about has been a family freind for a very long time.
