I saw this on the microoutlaws board, this is a very scary crash. Just like someone quoted on that forum, this driver may have been lost if this crash had happend anywhere else. This really shows how important safty is, even if you don't have to use it everynight.

There are few equals to Knoxville Raceway when it comes to the show they run. Not many tracks have 30+ push trucks - I mean hellt he cars dont even have to pack the track - they just run those 30+ push trucks in reverse for about 15 minutes. They have fire safety crews set up throughout the infield. The only thing that could possibly delay them is like in that video - cars goin' by.
It is the marquee track and show in the nation for several reasons. It's definitely the only place I have been to where you feel the history a good 10 times more than State Fair Speedway.
Fire crews position is still a big problem at State Fair Speedway. What there is - is all in the infield - and it's very likely that if a car catches fire, they will pull out into the half mile. and nothing is out there. Eddie Guinn's fire should have changed things for more than just a couple weeks....

The last time you was safe at state fair speedway was when Larry Hill promoted it. If you don't remember he had the sooner rescue there every show. I think they were stationed from tinker. Come to think of it that was the last real promoter we had. If I remeber they paid 1500.00 to sweep.

They did great with my fire at the ASCS show, granted I was able to pull right up to a fire extinguisher. I do worry though, what if someone flips really hard off of 3 and catches on fire. How long would it take for everyone to get there and are there enough fire extinguishers to put out a big fire. I'm sure there are, but it's just something I've always thought about.

Funny this post is here after just looking at the video of the flip and fire at SFS on Thrillerphoto's website. As I was watching Thriller's video I was struck by the lack of fire protection the safety crew wore. If they ever faced a fire like this one at Knoxville, needing to go in a rescue the driver, well, good luck with that. SFS is just a tragedy waiting to happen.

Agree, Nonwing -- have thought so for years. It won't be horse shows or a fair board that closes down SFS; it will be a lawsuit.

I remember seeing Stoney flip hard at Knoxville and being unimpressed with Knoxville's safety team. But then, that was 25 years ago.

I agree with non wing. If inadequate safety/fire protection keeps up, it will eventually bite you. May be 20 years, may be next Friday, but it will eventually bite you in the butt, and someone will get hurt. Just pray it doesn't happen before things change.
