I know some think that this is just another way to dilute the already decresing numbers in the sprint car field and so on and so on.

There is a series in Texas that runs both wing and non wing shows. I did see on one of thier results page that they had approx 30 cars show up for the show. The racesaver motors I guess is headed up by French Grimes. I just wanted to get a feel of how others think.

We compete in the Sprint Series of Texas. It is the aforementioned RaceSaver rules package. This set of rules allows my family to race, on a 40 hr per week paycheck. We had 30 nights on our motor before we freshened it this winter. French Grimes has done his homework on this set of rules. These motors live. In my opinion, it is the best thing to happen to sprint car racing in the DFW area in the last 20 years. We have 24-30+ cars per event, depending on what promoter wants. Our schedule has 12 winged events plus, 4 non-wing events.

There will always be those who will hate on anything that's not a 410 or 360 but, this works for us. One of the keys to this series, as with the success of any series, is STRICT ENFORCEMENT WITH NO FAVORITISM. Our series officials make this happen. Sprint car racing in Texas is fun again, like it was over 30 yrs ago, the first time I went to the Devil's Bowl.

I think it is great. I race with the Virginia sprint series and it works well for me. I am not independently wealthy but I can afford to run a 305 sprint car that is competitive and capable of winning. After the up front costs the biggest expense is fuel for the truck to tow to the track. Burns about 15 gallons of methanol a night, and most guys are using one race old tires that 410 guys discarded so free to nearly free tires. The purse usually covers truck fuel and pit pass so sponsorship or your own wallet makes up the difference for methanol and any damage. There is a guy with over 10 years on his motor and has never had the heads off of it and he has won a race this year with it. So the motors last pretty well if taken care of.

I don't think it really takes racers away from the higher up 410 sprint ranks, because if it wasn't for the racesaver series I couldn't afford to be in a sprint car period. There have also been drivers who used the racesaver cars to transition into 410 and 360 cars.

As far as how fast they are, at VMS the WoO 410 track record is around a 14.6 the fastest time set by a racesaver legal car is 16.5 and VMS is a horsepower track. A two second a lap difference is a decent difference but in comparison the racesaver cars still run faster laps than the world of outlaws super lates.

The racesaver rules allowed this sprint car fan to transition into a sprint car driver and still be able to afford to put some food on the table.
