410s (25 Cars)

Welcome Mat
NOSA brings in a good chunk of cars for the night's festivities. Kerry Madsen also makes it up for the holiday weekend in the TK Concrete #55.

MIA
Bronson Maeschen, Marlon Jones, Wade Nygaard, Lou Kennedy Jr., Matt Wasmund due to his "broken" rig.

VIP
Still over in turn 1 with LDA24, his wife, Ms. J, and a former racer stopping in to make a debut appearance. He shall remain unnamed for security purposes. Also stopped over to see Wertz over in turn 4 during intermission and the hobby stock feature.

Time Trials (1 lap each)
Time Trials get scratched due to NOSA wanting to draw for heats with passing points setting up an invert draw for the A feature.

Time Trials Grade: F; Time trials are the best way to set up the nights festivities instead of a stupid draw.

Heats (Draw Decides Heat Lineup, Passing Points Decide Feature Starting Lineup)
Heat 1 Starting Order: 10 Laps

Heat 1 Finish: 15 23w 40 16 4 12 33 24(DNF) 50

Heat 1 Notes: Riedel took the lead at the green with everybody else following in line on the heavy as hell track that warranted no passing and 1 lane racing for all 10 laps. A caution on lap 7 for Flaten stopped the event and McCarl would exit during the yellow due to a flat right rear. Rules state that tires cannot be changed during heat races so T-Mac was done for the heat. Pretty stacked heat, its just too bad the track couldn't cooperate.

Heat 2 Starting Order: 10 Laps

71R

Ryan Anderson

Row 1

11x

Gregg Bakker

11

Nick Shirek

Row 2

13

Mark Dobmeier

17M

Todd Mickelson

Row 3

Jody Rosenboom

18w

Ryan Wilson

Row 4

12L

John Lambertz

Heat 2 Finish: 11x 71R 13 6 11 17M 12L 18w

Heat 2 Notes: Another single file affair that saw Bakker shoot out to the lead from the get-go. Rosenboom quickly moved up to 4th early on, but would stay there. Lambertz struggled big time with Mickelson and N. Shirek the entire event and could never get around them. Bakker actually entered lapped traffic with a few laps to go.

Heat 3 Starting Order: 10 Laps

1K

Chris Shirek

Row 1

1

Troy Meyer

10TR

Bob Martin

Row 2

55

Kerry Madsen

35

Brenden Wilde

Row 3

Robby Wolfgang

101

Chuck McGillivray

Row 4

56

Johnn Cressman

Heat 3 Finish: 55 1K 10TR 1 1A 56 101 35

Heat 3 Notes: C. Shirek took the lead on lap 2 from Marin. Madsen had moved up to 3rd early and 2nd about halfway on a track that was starting to get a little wider, but was still fast as hell. Madsen took the lead from C. Shirek on the bottom of turn 2 on the last lap and would go onto win. Wolfgang struggled getting around T. Meyer the entire event and could never complete a pass.

Heat Grades: D+; about the only highlight of the night was Madsen in the last heat where he was hammering the cushion all the way around. The Report hasn't seen anyone hammer the cushion like that in a weekly show since Jason Solwold inherited the R19 ride. Track sucked as usual, and the grader was brought out to sell more beer during intermission.

B Feature (Top Tag the A, Laps)

B Feature Grade/Notes: No B Feature as all 25 cars would be going 25 laps in the A.

A Feature (25 Laps)
Starting Order: Madsen flipped a coin for being high point man. The result of the coin toss made an invert of 8. If it would have been the other way, Madsen would have had the pole.

A Feature Notes: Oh boy, here we go, this might get a little long, but deservingly so. Dobmeier and Clint on the front row yet again this week so it was going to be a slugfest from the wave of the green.

All eyes were on McCarl at the back as he timed the start of the feature, as he always does from the back, and took off when Doug Clark waved the green. Completely legal start and he was already by 3 rows of cars when he came to the flag stand. Garner took the lead from the drag race down the front stretch. He would find traffic on lap 3 with 25 cars being on the track. A lap 5 caution would come as Dobmeier hit a lapped car and blew out his right rear while he was running 2nd. McCarl had made his way past 14 cars in 4 laps and he was sitting in 10th already with 21 laps to go. Awesome racing from the 24 machine.

The restart saw Garner leading Winters, C. Shirek, and Bakker to the green, but it wouldn't last for long as Madsen wrecked his #55 TK Concrete machine at the top of turn 3 as the steering broke on his machine. He did not get upside down, but was done for the night. The next restart was a complete mess as it got jumbled up on the frontstretch and T. Meyer wound up on his lid after he tipped over once.

This is where all hell starts to break loose due to an open red declared by the officials. McCarl's crew was working on his car feverishly during this period. The pace truck goes around once honking the horn to warn teams they have 1 more lap to get away from the car and be off the track. The 24 crew kept working after the pace truck honked the horn by them, and walked off the track as it came around a 2nd time. They may have still been "on the track" but they were not working on the car. As mentioned earlier, the track official in that corner had all eyes on the 24 during the open red and declared they did not clear the track in time. McCarl was sent to the back for working on the car too long, and he stopped in turn 3 to talk to an official after finding out, and then he would get pushed to the back gate to wait for the gate to open so he could start loading up.

McCarl would go out back, and meanwhile on the next restart the leader, Garner, would lose his right rear tire at the halfway mark over in turn 4. He did a great job of holding onto it so he would not end upside down. That would give the lead to Bakker on restart with 13 to go ahead of Peters, Winters, and C. Shirek. Under this caution, McCarl was at the back gate waving his hands trying to get ahold of Lynton's attention telling him to pull-in as well since he has Big Game on the car as well. It was announced to the crowd that, "one of Lynton's crew members had requested he go to the pits." It wasn't his "crew member," it was obviously McCarl at the backgate! A caution a few laps later with 9 to go saw Lynton run across the backstretch to go talk to McCarl out back in what could have been the most entertaining moment in Huset's history!

Anyways, 9 laps left and the track was just about rubber downed and Bakker's to lose. He would end up losing it in traffic as he messed up going into turn 3 with 4 to go and Peters jumped all over the opening to take the lead in the Dewall #16. Peters held on to win, his 13th career 410 win at the track and it paid $2,500. Lap leaders were Garner 1-12, Bakker 13-21, Peters 22-25

A Feature Grade: A+ for entertainment, F- for track officiating, B+ for actual racing on the track. Keep on reading for more

360s ( Cars)
This report is getting very long so we'll summarize this mess of a race. Trisha Underberg started on the pole, which is never a good thing, she took off too early and caused a 10 car pileup down the frontstretch. This totally messed up the starting lineup as over half the field was stopped on the frontstretch for the wreck.

Anyways, Casey Abbas wound up leading all 18 laps by rocketing around the cushion and was able to hold off Rosenboom for Abbas' 7th career 360 win.

360 Finish: 17v 27 17B 15 4 24 42 2D 1 9K/ 11 3J 12 5 1A 7x 99 21

FOAW: Chris Shirek really impressed by running in the top 5 all night when he has struggled, to say the least, in the past at Huset's. He spun out with a few laps left after the 23w laid tons of oil on the track. He kept all the cylinders lit, but would end up finishing in a disappointing 9th.

Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: McCarl showing the Huset's "authorities" that he is the show by giving them the ultimate "EFF YOU" by going out back after the bullshit call that would have sent him to the back. There was NO doubt in the VIP's mind that he would have won from 10th with 21 laps to go. Lets only hope he shows up tonight for one last week just for the chance to get on the microphone to rip the living hell out of the Rubin's and the so-called track known as the "Home of the Professionals."

Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: Watching Lynton Jeffrey run across the backstretch after McCarl was waving him down from the backgate. If you ask me in 20 years what I remember from Huset's in the year 2009, I'm going to bring up Lynton running across the track during a yellow. Absolutely hilarious!

WTF: Where the hell was Lou Kennedy and his kid? They were at Huron the night before and I was looking forward to yelling LOOOOOOOOOOU all night long! Total disappointment that he no-showed.

"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: Sending McCarl to the back for working on the car too long. I'll admit it was borderline for the crew working on it too long as I was watching them, but as it has been mentioned in another thread, there were teams on the backstretch that continued to work on their cars longer than the 24 team. Its just unfortunate some track officials are out to get certain drivers, especially when that certain driver is a good reason why the track is still alive!

Mulligan Moment: I'm all for enforcing the rules, and I don't care who you are if your breaking a rule. I actually congratulate Huset's for sticking to the book if in fact McCarl's crew worked too long, but does anyone else remember LAST YEAR when Dobmeier got about 5-6 laps to work on his car after a red flag period and was still able to hold his position after that? Me thinks its time to pull up the archive of the Big J Report to see that one.

Head Scratcher: No time trials. I know NOSA wanted to have a draw for the heats to let their guys have a shot, but the track needed to have time trials done to widening it out, and also to invert the field.

Thumbs Up: Wertz making his first appearance to a race on the year. It also may be his last as he's moving here in a few weeks to Florida. He was quoted, "I am a 1 week wonder right now," when asked if he would be back to the track before he moves!

Thumbs Down: A long night at the track, but it was fun as hell after the races in the pits and out back with the 23w boys! All of the actions done out back by The Report will not be mentioned, neither will any of the action around the 24 trailer following the races. Kudos to Terry for sticking around to sign autographs out the side door while the car was loaded up, too.

Prime Mover: Jake Peters passed the most cars coming from 11th to win. Chad Meyer and Johnn Cressman both passed 9 cars in the race as well. But McCarl flying by 14 in 4 laps was the highlight of the night for actual racing festivities

Trophy Queen Grade: Not so great, maybe its time to get rid of this section if they don't improve.

Closing Stat of the Night: Dobmeier has the point lead now by 3 over Bakker.

Final Thought: Huset's Speedway – "Home of the Professionals." If Terry stops showing up, just remember why your wallets feel lighter, because of your idiotic cornerman who had a hard-on to get McCarl. Also, when everyone starts bitching that there is only 14 cars or so, just remember the events of the night on May 24th.
