Hoover wins CCM Opener in Placerville
3/28/09 - Richie Hoover of Sacramento took first place honors in the Capital City Midgets season opener at Placerville Speedway. Hoover improved from his fourth place starting position and assumed the lead on lap 7 and never looked back.
The CCM opener was supported by a select group of BCRA Midget lites. In the main, Brian Corso of Ripon took the lead from his front row starting position. On the lap 2, Kyle Victorino's car came to a stop creating the first yellow of the night. On the restart, Johnny Hoover (also in his first race), jumped the berm in turn two sending him over 3 times before the car came to rest. During the red flag, Corso's car suffered a mechanical issue retiring him from the race. Matt Land of Elk Grove assumed the lead, followed by Hoover, Dillon Silverman, Joey Hoover, Rick Young and Lonny Alton. Two laps later, Silverman from Chico got past Hoover and set his sights on Land. Upon passing Land, the lead pack came upon lapped traffic and Silverman spun giving the lead back to Land.
On the restart, it was Land, Hoover,Young, Alton and Silverman. Land's car which had been in the altercation saw Silverman spin, sustained damage unknown to Land. Going down the back straight something let loose and Land darted across the track, Hoover and Young sneaked by , Silverman was no so luck hitting the sideways Land throwing his car into the air in a spectacular crash.
Hoover won a six lap shootout, and was followed to the checkered by Silverman, Young and Alton.
The 1st heat race was won by Matt Land followed by Silverman, Young and Alton.
Brian Corso took 1st place honors in the 2nd heat race followed by Richie Hoover, Joey Hoover, Johnny Hoover and Kyle Victorino.
