If not mistaken I believe that Gary Jacob passed away sometime within the last year or maybe even longer.

That was a Huge Loss to Racing and to Gary's Family. Enjoyed His Writing what seemed for Many Decades in Racing Wheels. Perhaps His Family could Compile His Writings, and would in Essence have a Book

I remember meeting Gary back in my early years @ Stockton's 99 Speedway (late 60s or so). He was about my age and always had a notebook and usually sat by himself. Very dedicated writer and fan. I also remember reading his column in Racing Wheels Bruce.

Gary loved racing. Working for Racing Wheels or any other racing paper was/is not a get rich proposition. In fact the pay was usually a press card and a free subscription. That never fazed Gary. I remember sometime earlier in the decade we were running a Friday race on a holiday weekend at The PAS (may have been a July 4th) . Gary called me for a credential. When I saw him the night of the race we got to talking and he was telling of his schedule that weekend. After our Friday race, he was headed back to Bakersfield for a race on Saturday. As soon as the Bakersfield race ended, he was making a mad dash to New Mexico for a Modified race on Sunday. After the Modified race ended, he was going to haul ass to get to a Monday night race to close the weekend back in Central California! Yes, he was driving to each one!!! This was not abnormal for Gary as he had been doing that for years and as stated above, it was mostly for free. I just looked at him like he was crazy and he said, "They are all good races."
