Alissa Geving in the #3x family owned sprinter captured the 25 lap 360 winged sprint car A-Main at Petaluma Speedway Saturday night July 19, 2008. Geving started on the pole and led all 25 laps. The win was Geving's second of the 2008 points season at Petaluma Speedway and she currently tops all drivers in the points standings.

14 cars, track was in much better shape than the previous week. It was good to see Klint Simpson (driver of the #84) return to action after his wicked wreck along the frontstretch catch fence the previous week. Miles Bishop in the #7 made another appearance. Nice to have this fast and much improved driver and team racing again at Petaluma. Also making his appearance of 2008 was the #51 of Gary Paulson.

Fast time: #7 - Miles Bishop - 12.60 (.22 better than than 2nd qucik Art McCarthy in the #19 - 12.82. 3 other drivers were in the 12 second bracket - #6c of Jeff Parady, #19x of Brandon Davis, and the #43 of Bradley Terrel.

2 heats of 7 cars each were run. Heats were 8 laps.

Heat 1 - finish, car#, name, (started)

1. #84, Simpson (2) 2. #10x, Roberto Kirby (1) 3. #43, Terrel (4) 4. #7, Bishop (6) 5. #4, Adam McCarthy (3) 6. #51, Paulson (7) 7. #6c, Parady (5) - Simpson led wire to wire in non stop affair chased all the way to the finish by #10x of Kirby. Bishop grabbed the 3rd spot on lap 5 from Terrel, but Terrel came back on the next lap and took it back when Bishop bobbled exiting turn 4. Parady struggled through the heat race with an ill handling car. Great to see Simpson come back with a heat race win and show no ill effects.

Heat 2 - finish, car #, name (started)

1. #3, Bill Cornwell (2) 2. #14, Matt Sargent (1) 3. #19, Art McCarthy (6) 4. #3x, Geving (4) 5. #19x, Davis (5) 6. #96, Backholm (3) 7. #35, Ricky Wright, Jr. (7-DNF) - Cornwell led this one all the way, too getting the jump on the high side of turns 1 and 2 and passing Sargent. Yellow on lap 3 for Wright, Jr. as he got crossed up exiting turn 4 and high sided the berm coming to a stop. He would re-start at the tail, but pull off on lap 6. The #19 of McCarthy moved up nicely grabbing the 3rd spot from Geving with a turn 4 pass on lap 5. He would trail smoke for the the final 3 laps, but keep his spot.

A-Main - 25 laps - finish, car#, name (started)

1. #3x, Geving (1) 2. #19, Art McCarthy (3) 3. #43, Terrel (2) 4. #7, Bishop (4) 5. #19x, Davis (6) 6. #4, Adam McCarthy (7) 7. #10x, Kirby (11) 8. #14, Sargent (12) 9. #35, Wright, Jr. (14) 10. #51, Paulson (13) 11. #84, Simpson-DNF (9) 12. #96, Backholm-DNF (8) 13. #6c, Parady-DNF (5) 14. #3, Cornwell-DNF (10) - Geving blasted to the lead at the start with Terrel following. Bishop gets by Terrel for 2nd with a low move in turn 2 on lap 3. Bishop bobbles coming out of turn 4 on lap 5 and nearly comes to a stop. Terrel and McCarthy roar by as Bishop is able to gain control and is now running 4th. McCarthy uses an outside pass of Terrel in turn 2 on lap 6 to grab the runner up spot. Geving now out to a 10 car lead. Lapped traffic appears on lap 10. 1st yellow is on lap 11 for Parady as he stops up against the turn 2 wall after hitting a rut at the entrance to turn 1 that had developed early on in the evening. He would refire and join the field at the rear. Cornwell pulls off during the yellow, but would return for the restart. Restart 3x,19,43,7,19x,4,96,84,35,10x,14,51,3,6c - McCarthy ducks under Geving going into turn 1 as Geving drfits high in turn 2.. Drag race down the backstretch and as they come into turn 4 the red flies for Simpson who tips over at the bottom of turn 2. Backholm may also have been involved as he goes to the pits to replace a flat. Simpson (damaged top wing) is re-fired and tags the rear. Backhlom makes it back for the re-start. Cornwell pulls off and is done for the night. Restart Lap 11 - 3x,19,43,7,19x,4,35,10x,14,51,6c,84,96 - Geving takes off and this time denies McCarthy the bottom of 1 and 2 and stretches out her lead. Lap 14 and McCarthy's nose wing flips up, but he motors on and continues to run 2nd. Lap 16 and Parady pulls off. Lap 18 and Geving has reached lapped traffic as McCarthy and Terrel running nose to tail try to track her down. Backholm pulls off on lap 20. Simpson off on lap 21. Geving gets by 2 backmarkers, finds some clear track, and extends her lead the final 4 laps to win going away. McCarthy's nose wing finally flies on the final turn and sails over the #43. He holds on to grab 2nd with Terrel 3rd and Bishop right behind in 4th.

Hard Charger - hard to classify in a 14 car field, but Wright, Jr. moved up 5 spots from his 14th starting to get 9th. Both Kirby and Sargent moved up 4 spots.

Next race in Saturday July 27th when the CCWSCS comes to Petaluma for visit #3. It looks like after Race #8 in Chico on Friday night, Kyle Larson with his win has moved into 2nd place in the standings and closed the 35 point gap behind Sean Becker to right around 20 points with Andy Forsberg next some 30 points back in 3rd. All 3 have run well in the past at Petaluma. Herman Klein remains in stricking distance some 40+ points behind Becker. It should be good.

A few last cars, and fans. Some may have been discouraged because of the mishaps from the prior week. But the Petaluma crew ran a very tight show last night. Congrats for a job well done.

Geving was very fast, and did a great job in the main. Great to see Bishop there, and the always fun Bradley Terrell. A great Main event with I think 1-2 yellows, and a red.
