12 410's: 8 360's for a grand total of 20 cars! What a bargain, ALL this entertainment and talent under one roof, and for the low, low, price of $20 bucks! Gas is not a problem as the track is 5 min. from the house, but getting screwed twice in 5 min. is out of the question!!

Go down to the pits after the show. I think that the NMRA 3/4 midgets are having a bar-b-que.

They are doing something right.  Maybe promoting the front gate.  What a concept.  Standing room only.  Thats what I like to see, a full house of race fans.  Thanks to everyone who came out to see a great night of racing.

Lets not get crazy. 3 heats of eight for a total of 24 cars and 8 to transfer from the B. Of those 24 there where 1 1/2 USAC drivers, 2 Seniors and 7 non-regulars. That makes 13 1/2 regulars. USAC midgets had 17, 4 of which are Sprint Car Drivers. I think we would all agree car counts are down. How do we pack the stands and get the drivers more money???

Jimmy: Since we can't see the results yet, could you explain the 1/2 part?

Failure to see what difference it makes where a driver comes from or where he regulary runs? The point is Ventura had a great open wheel race card and it included a B main and a A main. The fans got to see 2 nice sprint races. 1/2 a USAC driver= too funny

Why is everyone so negative toward Santa Maria. I haven't seen who showed up or what. The predictions where 15 cars or less. Everyone knew that going in. Look at last years car counts.

They beat predictions and got 20 cars, correct. Perris only had 23.

Maybe Santa Maria made some phone calls and got some extra cars to show up. So instead of 2 heat races, they ran 3 heat races.

$20 ticket prices, yeah that's a little high, but I am guessing there was NO PARKING CHARGES.

Perris is $18 with $5 Parking, $4 Programs

Ventura is $14 or $5 Parking $2 Programs but had two 30 Lap Mains for sprints and midgets. A little higher when CRA shows up, but they run 2 mains and feed you with the Wags Race for one of them.

Victorville was $12 Free Parking $1 Programs 42 Sprint Cars, had the hightest purse too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ventura is also struggling with Sprint car counts too, but they have almost TOO MUCH RACING, it really doesn't matter unless you are a sprint purist or nut. They have VRA REGULAR, Senior, IMCA MOds, FOCUS, Junior Foucus, etc, there is always something exciting going on that 1/5 mile track. Last night was OPEN WHEEL ONLY night, and this even include the kids racing too!

After going to Victorville, Perris and than the 360 at Ventura, I hate to admit it, the actual racing was probably more exciting at Ventura when you count in the heat race action and the main event action. And that is saying something when you consider how good the racing has been the last 3 weeks. However, the midgets are just fair or so so any more at Ventura. I just don't know why they don't put on the show like they did in the 90's like they did with PJ, Page, Sleepy Flock etc. Am I saying the VRA drivers are better than CRA drivers hell no, but the racing is pretty damn good, with wicked slide jobs on harder tires, with racing from the bottom of the track literallly to the top of the wall. And its very normal to see Naylor regroom or redue the track for the mainevents to make it even more entertaining. Honestly, all 3 weeks were great shows, and each track, organization had something unique to offer. (I like Ventura because it is closer, has more action being a small track, costs less, I like the enthusiam of the promoter, the cool weather during the summer, has more race cars and racing during the night, and I get home by 10pm each night because of their local curfew, get to see kids race, so I guess I am biassed, I admit it, but their actual sprint car portion is pretty good even for sprint car only fans).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bottom Line

Don't need to be so negative on the 360 racing or the 360 guys that help fill fields at CRA races. In the past hasn't some 360 finished in the top 5 at Santa Maria in the Past. And didn't Jesse Hockett do well in his 360 at Manzy this year.

ALthough the car counts are low at CRA races, the main event racing is as good as ever.

I'm pretty sure the MGT at Perris, USAC know something is wrong when a upstart faciltiy like Victorville can almost pull double the cars than Perris can in the exact same circumstance. Maybe things can change for the better in the future.

And if Perris is the best facility in the Nation (has anyone ever been to Lakeside, KS?) could they please make sure their restroom toilets are working and not backed up. I remember during the OVal Nationals and many events that about 1/4 of the toilet are continously backed up. And EVERY NIGHT THERE ARE NO TOWELS TO DRY YOUR HANDS IF YOU CHOOSE TO WASH HANDS AFTER USING THE RESTROOM. Must have working toilets and hand towels to be considered "the Best" in the Nation".

Life is not too bad on the West Coast, at least we are seeing races and not getting rained out, or worse FLOODED or having tornados.

Doing well my friend. Thanks for the explanation. Gotta laugh at that 1/2 comment. How about breaking into that piggy bank for gas $$$ and come out this way in August? If ya do, I'll "BUY" you lunch at the Saturday night Lakeside show. Does the suites at the track say about 3pm sound OK? Remember, I'll "BUY" wink

The truth is your facts are wrong. Bad mouthing doesn't make you look better when you are mistaken, right? There were only (3) 360 cars, most of the Bandit regulars had 410 power. One that I am counting as a 360 was the John Butler car but I am not sure. He runs Perris and is a low dollar guy but may have an old iron block 410.

You were treated to a great program with 3 racing division and a bonus of the vintage cars that goes to the roots of our sport. A track record ain't bad and then the racing which is what your $20.00 was for (besides your right to drink beer, hoot and holler) was great and car count was comparable to what is taking place at race tracks every where.

You gotta admit it was a great show, right???

Yes, John Butler is low dollar but has an alum. 410 that is low on power on an old motor. Talked to him after the race, too bad USAC black flagged him as he was just being lapped for the first time he went to bottom of track got out of leaders way still got black flagged as the red was brought out. They should have let him tag the back at restart, if it took them 14 laps to lap him I think thats reasonable. Not to mention he would have gained a couple more spots by running that could have led to a little more money for him, not to mention much needed experience. WE wonder why low dollar guys don't travel, and why people don't support USAC!!!!! Hope next time if he doesn't slow and move to bottom of track that everyone understands why!!!!!!!!!!!I mean he drove from Torrance to get black flagged on lap 14 for doing what lapped cars should do hold their line but get out out the way!!!!!! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy either thats the sad part.

As for the racing very good had a great time well worth price of admission racy little joint..........

Everyone is a little Crazy in their own unique way...

Its the one's who Don't think they are Crazy you have
to Look Out For!!!!

Again this brings us to one of the foremost problems. No matter what anyone will say about USAC, (and I do not support the way they treat the West) they are not the people that put below average drivers in cars like the 50 or others. We do have cars here in the West that could compete with any car anywhere, but they have drivers that are, lets say being graded on the curv of reallity in the West. The reality is that the point leader is leading over a person that has run 2 less races. The point is there is lots of blame to go around and everyone needs to carry there own. Bad drivers or bad shows make for the same results. USAC national, the top drivers do not drive like they are at some slick track go kart race. But USAC cares about them, so now what ?
