Allissa Geving in the #3x used a daring turn 1 & 2 high side pass of Art McCarthy on lap 23 to score the 25 lap A-Main feature event at Petaluma Speedway Saturday night. Geving had led the entire race from her from row starting spot until the veteran McCarthy grabbed the lead on lap 20 taking advantage of Geving getting bottled up by lapped traffic.. Geving quickly regained focus and chased down McCarthy to make her daring lap 23 pass.

Only 12 cars on hand tonight in comfortable, mild weather.

Fast Time: #01, Richard Bailey, 12.69 2. #35, Rickey Wright, Jr., 12.79 3. #52, David Lindt, Jr.. 12.83 4. #57, Shane Golobic, 12.90 5. Geving, 12.98

Heat 2 - finish, car#, anem, (started) - 8 laps

1. #19x, Brandon Davis (1) - 1st ever heat win for rookie 2. #19, McCarthy (4) 3. #43, Bradley Terrell (3) 4. #57, Golobic (5) 5. #35, Wright, Jr. (6) 6. #84, Clint Simpson (2) - Daivs jumped to the lead and never looked back looking very smooth in keeping the lead over McCarthy and winning by 7 car lengths. Nice job by the rookie. McCarthy only one to do much moving up from 4th starting.

A- Main - finish, Car#, name, (started) - 25 Laps

1. #3x, Geving (1) 2. #19, McCarthy (5) 3. #43, Terrell (7) 4. #6c, Parady (6) 5. #52, Lindt, Jr. (11) 6. #10, Kirby (8) 7. #86jr, Mackay, Jr. (9) 8. #19x, Davis (10-DNF) 9. #84, Simpson (12-DNF) 10. #57, Golobic (2-DNF) 11. #35, Wright, Jr. (3-DNF) 12. #01, Bailey (4-DNF) - Geving jumps to the lead over McCarthy, Terrell, and Parady. Bailey has faded from front row as ruts in the high line are casuing problems. Early yellow for Golobic who spins and stops at the exit of turn 4. Lap 6 and Bailey flips in turn 1 & 2 to bring out the only red of the night. He would be OK, but done for the night. As the cars are lining up for the restart Wright, Jr. is black flagged and sent off. Not sure why, but he did have problems taking off on the restart after the Golobic spin and cars stacked up behind. Maybe there was damage or muffler problems? Lap 8 and Golobic spins bringing out the yellow and ending his night due to 2 spin rule.. Lap 12 and a yellow for Simpson who comes to a stop. This is his 2nd yellow and he is also finished. One final yellow for Mackay, Jr. on lap 14 who nudges the wall in turn 4 and slows. He does not stop, but flagman throws yellow. Next restart and Geving leads them down to the cone. Geving starts low and McCarthy starts outsinde and gains momentum down the front stretch and nearly gets under Geving in turn 1. Lindt has moved up to 4th now and may challenge. Next 7 laps sees little change. Lap 20 and Geving gets bottled up behind a backmarker. McCartthy takes advantage and zooms by. Geving gathers herself and begins the chase. Lap 23 and Geving goes high in turn 1 and gets alongside McCarthy as she is right up against the wall. Coming into turn 2 she pulls ahead and powers ahead of McCarthy and grabs the lead.. Geving runs the white flag lap flawlessly and takes the well earned victory

Lindt, Jr is hard charger rmoving up 6 spots..

Next race is May 10. Sprints are off next week so they can run the May 3 Al Hinds Memorial CSCCWS at Placerville Speedway.

Top 5 were:

Mackay and Smith had a nearly race long battle for the 2nd spot. This was by far the most entertaining battle of the night. They put on quite a show for the fans with some clean, aggressive driving. The #87 of Verneel moved all the way up to 4th from his 16th starting spot. He passed Goodwill for the 4th spot on the final turn and just beat Goodwill to the checkers. The specs put on a very good show. Also, racing was the #41 of David Press, #36, Newberry. #32, Magoon, #0x, Sharp, #71, Kevin Lewis, #21x Marcus Gardina?, #48, Mike Vaughn, #33, Scott Dupont, #17, Joel Myers (up from the modified ranks, yellow #12 (not sure of name), #41s, Jack Clark and a #27..

jr was waved by an official to catch the two lead cars on the yellow after the red for bailey flip. he cleaned out the motor and closed the gap. was told he was black flagged for endangering official who was on track. did not understand as jr was unaware that he had done anything wrong or gotten unreasoably close to anyone on track and was not warned, or set back a position or sent to the back, just black flagged. when inquiring one of the crew was told , "if you don't like it , don't come back." it seems some folks have taken the track up on that as there were only 12 360's. it seems that others in the pits have not been happy with some of the officiating as well at the track from what i gathered in conversations. some cited that as a possible explination for the low turn out. too bad cause petaluma is a great track to race on.

I certainly wouldn't call it a mess. The Winged 360's main wasn't fun from a spectator standpoint w/ way too many yellows for spins, but Geving's pass for the win was good.

Seventeen Spec Sprints is a great car count for their 2nd race @ Petaluma. This season Chico, Placerville and Marysville have all had around 20 or less for their fields, and Antioch has maybe 10.

It would be nice if Petaluma's announcer had some help getting Spec Sprint driver names and #'s right. The #87 was Ryan Bernal, a 14 yr. old from Watsonville area. The #21x was Marcus Hardina, from Marysville area. All night long announcer seemed confused re: driver's names in this class. I'd love to help if it is needed...

Heat 1 in the Spec Sprints ran flag to flag. The #87 car was slated to run heat 1 but for some reason wasn't able to, nice to see officials let him tag heat 2. How many tracks would do that for a driver?

The Spec Sprints ran a clean night of racing, saw little if any crashing, a few drivers w/ handling problems, tho, and a few cars pulled off w/ mechanical or tire/wheel issues.I thought it was an entertaining night of racing. Weather was great, spectators were friendly, bathrooms were A plus for being clean, food good and lots of cash registers open so no long lines.

Kudos to Petaluma and the Spec Sprint teams for a good show.

very disapointing. consern for the saftey of track crew is understandable, as the track lost someone in the past. still it does not stop them from having people running around all over the track on foot, on tracktors and on atv's on yellows and reds. if jr would have come in and said he didn't see someone or that he screwed up and got too close maybe it would have been easier to understand. still the decision to black flag the third place car with only 10 or so cars on the track with no warning seemed harsh. and then to say if you don't like it , don't come back! wtf? by the way ryan bernal looked great in the non wing.

Thanks for getting the names corrected for the wingless guys. Nearly all of the sprint teams/drivers I know having followed the winged 360's for many years. The wingless guys I am not so sure, so I depend sometimes on the announcer and at Petaluma that can be dangerous. It has become a minor joke in the stands what name will be botched or missed completely. He is actually a really good guy, but does make quite a few mistakes.

If you have a list please e-mail at casprinter@comcast,net and I at least I can get it right on a race summary. By the way I am in no way affiliated with Petaluma Speedway. I am just a fan in the stands. Writing is a hobby and I like to get race results from this board and I thought people would like to get Petaluma results ASAP.

Thanks for clearing up why Wright, Jr. was black flagged. Every week sprnit cars are waved forward by officials to catch the pack to start races or re-starts.. No one I was with saw anything unusual. Sounds like Wright did what he was told and then was penalized...and that sucks. (unless there is a clear rule of speed or direction stated at the drivers meeting).I hate pissy, lame@**, juvenile attitudes by a track official.
