Today's Quakes Deadlier Than In Past

June 18, 2008
(AP) New research compiled by Australian scientist Dr. Tom Chalko shows that global seismic activity on Earth is now five times more energetic than it was just 20 years ago.

The research proves that destructive ability of earthquakes on Earth increases alarmingly fast and that this trend is set to continue, unless the problem of "global warming" is comprehensively and urgently addressed.

The analysis of more than 386,000 earthquakes between 1973 and 2007 recorded on the US Geological Survey database proved that the global annual energy of earthquakes on Earth began increasing very fast since 1990.

Dr. Chalko said that global seismic activity was increasing faster than any other global warming indicator on Earth and that this increase is extremely alarming.

"The most serious environmental danger we face on Earth may not be climate change, but rapidly and systematically increasing seismic, tectonic and volcanic activity," said Dr. Chalko.

"Increase in the annual energy of earthquakes is the strongest symptom yet of planetary overheating.

"NASA measurements from space confirm that Earth as a whole absorbs at least 0.85 Megawatt per square kilometer more energy from the Sun than it is able to radiate back to space. This 'thermal imbalance' means that heat generated in the planetary interior cannot escape and that the planetary interior must overheat. Increase in seismic, tectonic and volcanic activities is an unavoidable consequence of the observed thermal imbalance of the planet," said Dr. Chalko.

Dr. Chalko has urged other scientists to maximize international awareness of the rapid increase in seismic activity, pointing out that this increase is not theoretical but that it is an Observable Fact.

"Unless the problem of global warming (the problem of persistent thermal imbalance of Earth) is addressed urgently and comprehensively - the rapid increase in global seismic, volcanic and tectonic activity is certain. Consequences of inaction can only be catastrophic. There is no time for half-measures."

and btw here is how you post a link

http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/Story?id=5202405&page=4

since we throwing everything under the sun in this thread - which btw is a sound idea - here goes.

I think all administrations should be held accountable for this - both parties. Like when Janet Reno sacked all them judges when Clinton was in office. that shouldn't be right either. although this may be a lil different. i think this shows a pattern of crap. this was done to silence legal opposition to us being a state sponsor of torture. same as a CIA agent was outed because her hubby knew Iraq would be a disaster. even the illegal wiretapping - thats another thing that in its true nature - is meant to silence organized homegrown opposition. screw whatever party it is - is there any actual reasons why elected officials are never held accountable? I've sat and seen about 50 million things much more worth of impeachment than clinton's BJ - - - but executive priveldge gets claimed and no one even has to legally explain anything. I'd just like to know why this is. why no one cares that our executive branch has become 50 times more powerful than the other 2 branches combined. for being such a sound and free democracy and all that good sounding stuff............it sure doesn't get practiced a whole lot.

and yes i am throwing myself in the fire here because I already know where most the responses will come from. o well. just wandering what others take on it is.

now global warming causes judges to get fired....and Clinton to get BJs?

next you will be saying that global warming CAUSES GLOBAL COOLING!

clear evidence that global warming causes liberals to lose their minds...

and you buddy - Mr. wilson was all wrong - Iraq is now a success -according to the left wing washington post:

The Iraqi Upturn
Don't look now, but the U.S.-backed government and army may be winning the war.
Sunday, June 1, 2008; B06
THERE'S BEEN a relative lull in news coverage and debate about Iraq in recent weeks -- which is odd, because May could turn out to have been one of the most important months of the war. While Washington's attention has been fixed elsewhere, military analysts have watched with astonishment as the Iraqi government and army have gained control for the first time of the port city of Basra and the sprawling Baghdad neighborhood of Sadr City, routing the Shiite militias that have ruled them for years and sending key militants scurrying to Iran. At the same time, Iraqi and U.S. forces have pushed forward with a long-promised offensive in Mosul, the last urban refuge of al-Qaeda. So many of its leaders have now been captured or killed that U.S. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, renowned for his cautious assessments, said that the terrorists have "never been closer to defeat than they are now." Iraq passed a turning point last fall when the U.S. counterinsurgency campaign launched in early 2007 produced a dramatic drop in violence and quelled the incipient sectarian war between Sunnis and Shiites. Now, another tipping point may be near, one that sees the Iraqi government and army restoring order in almost all of the country, dispersing both rival militias and the Iranian-trained "special groups" that have used them as cover to wage war against Americans. It is -- of course -- too early to celebrate; though now in disarray, the Mahdi Army of Moqtada al-Sadr could still regroup, and Iran will almost certainly seek to stir up new violence before the U.S. and Iraqi elections this fall. Still, the rapidly improving conditions should allow U.S. commanders to make some welcome adjustments -- and it ought to mandate an already-overdue rethinking by the "this-war-is-lost" caucus in Washington, including Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). Gen. David H. Petraeus signaled one adjustment in recent testimony to Congress, saying that he would probably recommend troop reductions in the fall going beyond the ongoing pullback of the five "surge" brigades deployed last year. Gen. Petraeus pointed out that attacks in Iraq hit a four-year low in mid-May and that Iraqi forces were finally taking the lead in combat and on multiple fronts at once -- something that was inconceivable a year ago. As a result the Iraqi government of Nouri al-Maliki now has "unparalleled" public support, as Gen. Petraeus put it, and U.S. casualties are dropping sharply. Eighteen American soldiers died in May, the lowest total of the war and an 86 percent drop from the 126 who died in May 2007. If the positive trends continue, proponents of withdrawing most U.S. troops, such as Mr. Obama, might be able to responsibly carry out further pullouts next year. Still, the likely Democratic nominee needs a plan for Iraq based on sustaining an improving situation, rather than abandoning a failed enterprise. That will mean tying withdrawals to the evolution of the Iraqi army and government, rather than an arbitrary timetable; Iraq's 2009 elections will be crucial. It also should mean providing enough troops and air power to continue backing up Iraqi army operations such as those in Basra and Sadr City. When Mr. Obama floated his strategy for Iraq last year, the United States appeared doomed to defeat. Now he needs a plan for success.

Don't look now BRR... We're already in Iraq and are knocking at the door in Iran. Meanwhile, Israel is ready to shove their way in. Better start doing push-ups in the morning. WWIII is going to require all hands on deck. It was nice knowing you. We'll all be comforted by the fact when the end is near that a clown like Bush helped to escalate it.

He is scheduled to have a Tea party this weekend, at the White House, with the Bushes. From the agenda it's to talk about W's retirement plans to work for him, part time.

Israel is nothin but a little puppet. Bush's dumbass and all the dumbass conservatives that look to their ideals like they are visionaries or prophets - can't garner enough support to attack Iran - so we will have our little puppet Israel try escaliting things. bush does this strong arm relations on purpose - war means money for his buddies. his legacy is screwed either way - but if israel gets in a war with iran - they are bankin on the public being in favor of supporting our little instigating buddies over there.

i'm just saying its easy to see what they are doing and why. bush cant get the support for it because no one buys into the holy war ideology of the right wing group - well at least not en masse anyways. but they know americans will be stupid enough to buy into when our ally starts a war over there. like i been saying - this country cant let this radical traitor to our country even serve out his term. no telling what kind of crap he will start next to put the last nail in our country's coffin...... he's a traitor. and all those still stupid enough to believe the crap he shells especially on foreign policy - are traitors too.

Forget about taking a day off work, we're not going to be watching this one from afar... We're right in the middle of it. The Japs bombed Pearl Harbor and drug us into WWII which we finished by bombing Hiroshima, amen. We drug our ownselves into this mess however. Meanwhile, while bin Laden is running free in Pakistan, we're waste deep in Iraq and soon to be Iran with more soldiers of fortune on the payroll than enlisted military. Iraq alone has nearly bankrupted us. Doesn't look good for the home team at this point if WWIII actually does break out. Better put down the Kettle One and drop and give us ten Private BRR.
