A democracy will end about 50 years after the electorate discovers that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury, and continue to vote themselves more and more gifts--everyone on welfare---why work??? You add about 15 million people to medicaid, medicare, S.Sec.etc, five years from now (people in this country are dumb enough to do it) and its the beginning of the end. Those programs are almost broke now. 50% of the people in this country pay zero net federal and state income taxes as of year ending 2006. That percentage goes up about one percent every three years. You do the math.

Then its socialism, then dictatorship. Another 3rd world shitehole. We have a political party who that 50% group belongs to. The other group pays the taxes.

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

I don't know man - 1 party seems to get much of the welfare - the other seems to get much of the tax loopholes (more money you make - less taxes you pay- in many areas that is) so I'm not sure that assertion is very accurate. But in slight relations to your thoughts - something really needs to be done to unite members of both rep and dem party voters. at the current rate of division - if it continues to grow and the gap gets wider - history tells the story of what goes down in that situation..............

In xase you dodn't know it Jeff, Social Security is NOT a gift.

SS is approx 15% of your net income put in a special account for you.

Granted the Liberal polititions have robbed and given away the accounts, it was still not free as in a gift.

These subjects don't belong on this forum, and I usually ignore them. However, there are such egregious errors in the above (and it being Sunday morning with nothing to do), I'm going to reply.

I'm almost certainly much older than the writers above, and have obviously studied lots more history.

1. It's already been way more than 50 years since the electorate discovered it could vote benefits for itself. For example, I have been reading more or less this same argument for more than 50 years.

2. Very few people want to be on welfare. Do you actually know how little it is? Do you realize that it expires after some number of weeks? Whether it's a good idea or not, hardly anyone is living on it.

3. Those programs you mention cannot be broke, because they are not, in fact, separate accounts. They are simply part of the year-to-year expenses of the government, like highways and defense.

4. Your Social Security payments do not, and never have, gone into any kind to trust fund for you. From the day it was established, Social Security has used the taxes of the current generation of workers to pay benefits to the current generation of retirees.

5. It's amazing that anyone would blame any part of the current financial problems on "liberal politicians", considering that most of the damage has been done by the current administration.

6. It may be true that 50% of the people don't pay any income taxes, but that means (with a few exceptions) that they didn't have any income. For example, most of my grandchildren are too young to have worked, and some are students who get their witholding refunded.

End of lesson.

I may be mistaken but i think social security was incorporated into the general fund during the Johnson Administration, but you are correct it was always dependent on current generations of workers to fund the benefits for the present retirees.. Some how it got out of wack, people living much longer etc, and laws that do not allow the SS admistration to invest on anything other than goverment bonds, in otherwords IOU's which the goverment promises to pay back to the SS administration that they now seem to want to weasel out of...

Why is it that people complain about welfare to the general public yet do not complain about corporate welfare, there is way more payed out in corporate welfare than payed to inidvidual citzens, people don't seem to get mad when you read about a rich woman in S.F. that has huge acreage in the Valley that gets over a million dollars a year cotton subsidy from the federal goverment, do we eat cotton? or rice farmers who who own several farms but use a different family members name for each separate farm allowing each person to rake in $250,000 per year subsidy from each property, or how about the pumpkin farmer who planted his pumpkins one month before holloween then collected because they did not grow, or the flower and christmas tree farmer who said the rain and freeze ruined his crop, all put in for a subsidy and received thousands, when did holloween pumpkins, flowers and christmas trees become a food that people need?? What about a goverment subsidy to move your factory to a foreign country, that is happening.. Why is it that the electorate has no complaints about all of that yet they holler about individual citizens getting what amounts to a few hundred per month not thousands.... Immigration freeloaders is a different subject..

We always hear politicians talking about individuals in this country having the worst saving rate of all the industrial countries.. Our tax system is out of wack, buy a million dollars of stocks then sell the stocks your long term capital gain tax is around 18 or 20% yet if you have your money in a bank your interest is taxed as ordinary income which can be taxed at the 35% rate according to your income, why is that, when you deposit money in a saving account or buy a CD don't the bank then lend it out to others who also contribute to the economy?? If they want people to save then make the tax fair..

I agree with Dmonahan on just about everything he said, finally someone came on this board who knows what the hell he is talking about.. Now i'm out of here, there is no need for a response..

I can only think of a few presidents that have ever been worse than G. dub Bush. 1. He was in office only a couple months then died. Zachory Taylor. Though he was not worse he just never showed he could do anything cause he died like 2 months into presidency. 2. Buchanan refused to accept a civil war was coming and just wanted out of office and pretty well just forgot he was president. 3. John Taylor was a major supporter of getting rid of slavery. Then once he was elected, almost the next day after sworn in, he became a major supporter and helped slavery keep going for another 20 years. He was suppose to be the the president that abandoned slavery but changed his mind and was elect for his promise.

Those might be worse but in a close tie with G DUB. William Harrison. Same as Zachory Taylor. He died just a 30 days in so if Bush had died a few months in we would be better off if Cheney was not Vice. (Which on a seperate note is why no one has shot Bush.) Two words Ticky DICK! Andrew Johnson for pretty well not following any of the constitution. First off he fired his cabinet once in office which is his first unconstitutional thing. Was against the 14 amendment. Harding allowed all his friends to raid the US Treasury for personal gain.

I got to say. If you read a top 10 list of the worsts presidents ever in our history...G W Bush has a quality from just about all of them. Besides dying of the shits or pneumonia. Though had he died of pneumonia only 30 days in like Harrison, I say we wouldn't be too much worse off cause Cheney never would have been "Reelected" in 2004. the government hides bio war illnesses from us. We should hide bio illness from them pointed straight at the white house.

In a list of the 10 worst Presidents, a person must not forget Jimmy Carter and his issues.

The worst part there Jackhole is that you are too young to remember truly BAD Presidents like LBJ as well as Carter.
