Nice of you to join the 99 percent of the country that knew this years ago. One of the things I find completely ridiculous is when any newspaper columnist trots out the annual college football needs a playoff column. I feel like any time a columnist does this, he is still just stealing money from his employer by writing a column so damn obvious that anyone who has not been living in a cave for the past 10 years could have written the same thing line by line.

KU and Hawaii should play for the National Championship if you went on wins/losses alone. But a perfect world this is not..

Just give everyone a participation trophy for 2007 and call it a season. Glad my Buckeyes are back at #1...but what a crazy season. GO BUCKS!!!

lol. omg buddy. just because we all know it is broke doesn't mean quit talkin bout it! lol then it would never change. if everyone just said the hell with it and never said another thing about it - then there would be 0 chance anything would ever change............. granted I doubt it will change ----- due to the money the 4 BCS venues make and the sway they have over the NCAA - but I'm not gonna quit talkin bout it off of that alone..................we all know it won't change because just like anything else - just cause it is screwed up doesnt mean anyone will stop watching it. BCS is horrible - but like everyone else I'll still watch college football. apples and oranges in the end I guess.
If thats how you feel about it then you might now want to watch anything sports related tomorrow - except of course the BCS selection show. everything else will bitch, and bitch, and bitch, and bitch about it for a long time to come.

Doesn't something have to actually WORK properly before it can be broken? The BCS has never worked except by total accident. Just another case of $$$$$ over ruling common sense, that's why there is no playoff and probably never will be.

Get ready for many years of bitching then. Your post stated the obvious. Until the majority of university presidents are in favor of a playoff system, it's not going to happen. Forty years ago, Penn State finished the season unbeaten and untied and lost the national title when Richard Nixon declared Texas the best team in the country. If the opinions of fans mattered at all, don't you think there would have been some kind of playoff instituted at some point in the past 40 years? LOL

Until the money from an eight team playoff overrides the money from old guys in goofy looking blazers (bowls), there will not be a playoff system.
That said, if there could be a playoff, maybe it could look something like this...
#1 Ohio State vs #8 Arizona State/Hawaii (if they are unbeaten)
#4 Oklahoma vs.#5 Georgia
#2 LSU vs #7 West Virginia
#3 USC vs #6 Virginia Tech
Simply take the six big conference champions and two at-large teams. Then, to placate the bowl people a bit, have the losers of the first round games each take a spot in the four major bowls against the next best four teams who didn't make the playoffs, say Missouri, Kansas, Florida and Illinois.
Play the first round the first Saturday in December and the second round during the Holidays, this year maybe the 22nd. The Championship Game could be the January 2nd. Still gives the players a chance to get finals done and not lose class time. Still gives the fans a chance to travel to the games or even a bowl to reward a great season.
The TV networks would love it. The bowl people would still get great matchups and sell tickets and help their local economy. And a championship is settlesd on the field, like at every other level of the sport.

So what I am hearing is you guys like the old coaches/media poll days, where the #1 team in the country plays in the Rose Bowl, and the #2 team plays in the Sugar Bowl. Al least the BCS attempts to get the #1 and 2 teams playing each other.

Actually. I think Ohio St vs. LSU gets us a lot closer to a battle of the 2 top teams than West Virginia vs Missouri ever would.
It is better than it used to be, when teams would go undefeated the whole yr and never get a chance to meet, like in 1994 and 1997.
A playoff would be nice, but as long as people watch the games, forget about them changing anything.

How could you put KU ahead of Ohio State? OSU would $hit stomp them. Any team that plays the same type of ball that OSU plays gets whipped. Plain and simple. That's why I think this game should be real good. LSU plays smashmouth football. OSU is better up front then LSU on both sides. So I give a slight edge to them unless LSU goes spread for some reason. Then OSU COULD BE in some trouble.

OSU vs USC....no one has had a tougher schedule this season, or traditionally for that matter, than USC.
LSU had Middle Tennessee; Tulane; La Tech and Mississippi State as "markers", USC had Idaho.
Let the Buckeyes and the Trojans slug it out......this is why we need a national play off system for BCS final rankings.

Ohio State played the traditional powerhouses of Youngstown St, Akron and Kent State. They also played a bad Washington team. That was their non-conference schedule. And the Big 10 was weak this year, with Wisconsin, Michigan and PSU all underacheiving.
LSU vs Oklahoma would likely be the best matchup, but it's still going to be a good one.

Ok...so maybe LSU vs USC??? Although the Boise State/Oklahoma game last year was one of the best college games I've ever seen!
But that Youngstown team is a bunch of savages...they went 7-4 and beat the likes of Lock Haven, South Dakota State, and Tyler Walker's alma mater
Stony Brook
