Yeah I know. Those DLM's as a support class. Geesh

You guys kill me. I love anything that races on dirt. It's just better racing. The Dirt Late Models at Knoxville put on a helluva show. As good as it gets in racing.

Give it a try. You might actually enjoy it. Smile

It's kind of funny to compare this discussion with the Knoxville threads over on 20/20, isn't it Donn? Smile

Over there you'll find the opposing view on the Late Model side of the fence. I was tentatively scheduled to go down there but something came up that changed my plans but I was looking forward to this one. It's impossible to not like Late Models when I live near a couple of the best weekly Late Model tracks in the country. On Masters weekend I'm just as likely to be found around the haulers of Jerry Richert Jr., Travis Whitney, Justin Fegers or Joel Cryderman.

I can't imagine not liking all of the types of dirt track racing but Knoxville never offered much of a variety until a couple years ago. They're still trying to get established with their Late Model specials down there and as time goes on we'll see more people traveling to watch this race. If you look at the rest of Iowa and the surrounding states there is a lot more Late Model than Sprint racing so I think this thing is going to catch on. Dirt tracks are multi use facilities like arenas that offer sports, concerts, trade shows and conventions and the variety is good. There are paying Late Model customers out there and they're smart to not limit themselves to presenting only one "product" (Sprints). The die hards will squirm a little anytime a track branches out and targets other markets but they'll get over it. After all, the Sprint season is done for the year and the track is sitting idle so they're smart to book this one.

P.S. I noticed that WDRL is at Lakeside on the same weekend so Justin will probably be down there instead of Knoxville. Too bad they can't work together around those dates because they're only a few hours from KC so that's going to water the field down some.

You just don't get it Stan, I think you will notice next year that Knoxville will wise up and drop the in-season DLM shows after taking a HUGE bath in red ink with EVERY attempt to put on a show.

The Fall show would be just as much of a miserable failure as the rest if not for Tony Stewart showing up.

Face it Stan, the people are there to see Tony, NOT the DLM's

The DLM's put on a decent show, but they have no fans that follow the series during the summer.

Knoxville, in all of their wisdom put a DLM show on this season with a DLM show 40 miles away made up of regular fans who wouldn't cross the street to watch whatever Knoxville brought in.

It may be sad, but rumor has it that the person responsible for Knoxvilles huge losses has been tared and feathered and ran out of town on a rail. (about time)

I forecast a decent crowd for the Tony Stewart show this weekend.

You're right, I don't get the problem with running a Late Model show after the conclusion of the Sprint season? What's the issue? Are you their accountant?

90% of the people there will either be sprint car fans or people who just want to see Tony.

Without Tony, the race would be a total failure like 100% of the DLM shows have been without Tony.

Yes the DLM's put on a good show, yet compared to a Sprint Car, they are boring as all get out.

They sort of remind me of a barn door in a tornado. lol

Plain and simple, Knoxville could charge the same price for a 4 hour autograph session with Tony and not even have a race. lol

Please Note:

Third turn will be having a diversity training session at 10AM in the meeting hall.

Subject of the training, "How to enjoy watching grass grow" "Watching paint dry will be offered also if time permits lol lol lol lol

Your post may very well be one of the most ignorant that has ever been posted on this forum. The vast majority of the fans that will be there will be late model fans (personally I like both classes). Furthermore, they will not stay home, just because Tony Stewart is not racing. Many could care less whether he runs or not. They will be at Knoxville to watch the real stars of the sport (Bloomquist, Moyer, Moran, Birkhofer, etc.) and the great racing. I have been to every Knoxville Nationals since the mid 80's and in my humble opinion the late models put on a better show (i.e. better racing) than the sprints do (I feel both events are excellent, must-see events).

Do you actually believe the crap that you post?

You couldn't be more wrong on some of the things you posted above.

1. The LM fans that are traveling to Knoxville (the vast majority of the crowd) could care less whether Tony Stewart is racing at the event, just like most sprint fans could care less whether Kasey Kahne races at the Front Row Challenge at Oskaloosa. The vast majority of late model fans that I have talked with totally despise anything related to NASCAR.

2. You stated that DLM does not have fans that follow the series. Numerically there are far more late model tracks, series, fans, etc. than sprint tracks, fans, etc. (and it is not even close). Furthermore, from 25 years of experience of traveling to both types of racing (I travel to both), late model fans do alot more traveling than sprint fans do. Yes, I am well aware that sprint car fans travel too.

P.S.--I look forward to watching both classes this weekend and hope both classes put on great shows.

I have only seen the 305's a couple times, but they appear to the common person to be as good as the 360's

Close racing and believe it or not, some passing even!

and to think that they are stuck having DLM's for their support class lol lol lol

just noticed your pic. how's she communist? Man when the right wing media feeds you that kind of shit you just got to spit it back out man! I'm mostly jokin with ya man. But as much I hate really hate republicans I hope that Ron Paul does good. But these days you have to buy the presdency with Bechtel, Halliburton, and Brown & Root's money. So I don;t much like his chances. I'm alright as long as it ain't the 9/11 photo man Guliani or Insane McCain. Especially Guliani........he wasn't even a good mayor.......but the Federal government wasn't the only ones to profit off 9/11........Guliani did too. Considering how Guliani and Bish used ground zero for their photo ops - they might as well as let the Iranian president do it too. It's pathetic he tells more truth to the american people in a 17 page document than our own president has in his whole life. But he's a bad guy for developing nukes............I mean Bush doesn;t really want insane religious fanatics to have nuclear weapons.....thats a right that is strictly reserved for the USA and Pakistan. I wonder if Bush is gonna take any of the billions he's made off the war against the constitution- oops I mean Iraq, and pay back the Bin Ladens for them bailing him out of Arbusto. Or maybe share his wealth with the Carlisle Group. I bet Bush ends up moving to Dubai. And being the chairman of a combined conglomerate of Halliburton and Carlisle. . Ah-oh.......I'm sorry. kinda. shouldn;t have ranted. especially in a reply to NoDust. I like nodust.......funny guy. funny videos too.

I guess, to quote a friend, "The proof is in the puddin"

Tonight is "Show time",

I guess everything that has been said is totally not important.

Tonight we will see if people will travel (at this time of year) to watch a high paying race.

The weather is supposed to be superb for this time of year.

My position is that Knoxville is a first Sat in May to the final night of the Nationals, Saturday, 410 sprint car only type of track.

extra events seem to have watered down the product that they offered.

NOW I will have to eat my words if there are 3,000 fans there tonight and tomorrow and a big crowd on Saturday. I sincerly hope for success so that the sprint car fans don't have to pay for the failure next season with higher ticket prices.

Good luck to all,

Agreed, Duane. I, as many people, won't be able to attend until Saturday. Harvest, football and other activities take over in Iowa this time of year. Even last year when I lived there I could hardly make it. Saturday night I went to the races, then went back to work. But if I could, I'd be there all 3 nights. Hopefully, plenty of people can.

That is a good thing.

I hope the dope (from the Doctors, not the street vendors) wears off quick enough tomorrow so I can get there.

Good luck to all,

The first year they added the IRA Sprints to Cedar Lake's annual "Masters" the hard core Late Model fans went ballistic. They protested, "this is a Late Model track, nobody will come out to watch the Masters if they add Sprints." Others said "you're wrecking OUR race, I'll never go again."

You get the idea, what Knoxville is to Sprint Cars Cedar Lake (with the exception of the annual WoO race) has always been considered a Late Model track. Actually, if you look at the five years Cedar added 360's I think that helped turn the tide. Not a bad deal when drivers like WoO champion Donnie Schatz and IRA champion Travis Whitney used to run 360's there. Scott Winters' dad Kent in the 23w was one of my favorites as well as several other drivers that you might have heard of. The late Billy Anderson, Tony Norem and Late Model driver Rick Auckland all drove 360's at CLS.

Who knows, maybe five or ten years down the road Knoxville will produce a Late Model champion who will beat Bloomquist, Moyer, and those guys. I think that Late Models at Knoxville is a good thing, tracks are simply entertainment venues like a stadium or arena. Those places book sports, concerts, conventions, truck pulls, motocross and all kinds of other stuff. Who really cares what's going on there during off weekends for the Sprint Cars? What's it going to hurt? If the track makes money it's good for everybody and if they don't then they'll discontinue the Knoxville Late Model Nationals. Personally I think it's going to grow every year just like the Masters did in spite of what a few die hards thought. Remember nodust, it's a very fine line from traditionalist to dinosaur. wink
