the last 2 years the season opener had 50 cars, this year 35. radios, entry fees, new weight rule and many other changes is the result of such a weak car count. the radios worked so well that, in the feature the officials had to go back the good old chalk boards. the 35 car owners combined spent $9000 for these radios which did not even last the first race. money well spent. looks like that chalk costs $9000, must be the new gold. it seems that the new entry fee will have to pick up the slack for such weak car counts and that sweet new rig the officials are parading around in. we all know how much that rig costs even if it is a hand me down from the national series. speaking of money well spent, driving to phoenix for a two day show. well, sort of a two day show. friday night is free. saturday has an increased purse, but still not enough to cover 2 nights of racing. good luck with the car counts usac. usac, i think you forgot that not all racers are filthy rich. most of us race because we love the sport. we pour our hearts and souls into our racing because we don't have buckets of money to pour into it.

congratulations mark priestly, well deserved win. tony jones, that was the most amazing pass in the heat race. passing on the outside coming off of turn 4 to take the lead and the white flag.

Hey, you had Shuman's deal out there and opted for USAC. What did you expect from those idiots? USAC has been a joke for years and I don't see any improvement any time soon. Look what they did to the Silver Crown Series.

Eric, are you not going to be racing with the USAC series this year? If not, what are your plans?

Think of it as a plus, escs36. With a lower car count USAC may get more programs run without having to shorten the feature to make curfew.

Its beyond me how the PAS and whatever officials cant run a seven race plus qualifying format in the allotted time frame.

Buzz, I wasn't there, but I heard the feature was over at about 9:00 and first race was about 7:00. If in fact that is the case, it sounds pretty timely to me. Imjustwondering, how many times has it been that the PAS has had to shorten a show? I only remember once or twice.

Sounds like they will do fine if they can keep that up for the rest of the season.

Ive been there a number of times when it seemed like it took all night to run the show. Id have to go to one of the stock car shows to see which group of people were the ones slowing everybody down.

Either way, hope they can run in a timely fashion here on out to keep the neighbours as happy as possible.

The closer those homes get, the faster the track wants to end the night.

I can't remember the last time a show was shortend at the PAS (but I'm old and the memorey is not as good as it once was)And I havn't missed many Sprint car shows in the past 11 years.

Wallscraper you're right VRA does put on a good show. But i'll take a 410 show anyday even with USUC running it.

i agree 410 non-wing racing is the best racing around, hands down.

unfortunately i am not running usac. i don't have the financial backing to support a 410 deal. i own, drive, and am the sole sponser of the car. my plans are to run 360's all year. mainly vra and the bandits on off weekends. however, i do intend to get my 2 free races out of usac. most likely ventura and santa maria.

Eric,

You will soon have new friends. The VRA group is a very fun group of guys to race with. although we race hard, if the point leader brakes something,.. the guys in second or third in points are ussually the first to offer assistance or parts.

In VRA will find all of the top guys get along, visit in the pits, you know,..... like friends. I know that ol Ripper isnt stopping by Cory's trailer to say hey,

You will find the raceing to be JUST AS intence, but the comeradery to be fare more enjoyable.

See you at Ventura, Stop by for a beer after the races

Kevin. well said. V.R.A is a well run club, with a lot of good people racing there. If I can get rid of my 410, we too will be back at v.r.a, got to sell the engine first. see ya Kevin.  John Springstead

Shortened feature:

The feature was shortened by five laps during last year's October 21 show. Allowing for a creeping 20 seconds per lap it would have taken, at most, 2 minutes to complete the program. Cory and Damion were in an extremely tight year-end points race. When the race was halted I believe Damion was in 8th place and Cory was threatening 3rd place from his 23rd place starting position. The outcome of this race, and possibly the year-end points standings was decided by others than those doing the racing. I don't know precisely why the race was shortened. I can't think of a good reason outside the threat of everyone at the track being arrested by police and hauled off to the slammer for a 2 minute curfew violation.
