Shortened feature:
The feature was shortened by five laps during last year's October 21 show. Allowing for a creeping 20 seconds per lap it would have taken, at most, 2 minutes to complete the program. Cory and Damion were in an extremely tight year-end points race. When the race was halted I believe Damion was in 8th place and Cory was threatening 3rd place from his 23rd place starting position. The outcome of this race, and possibly the year-end points standings was decided by others than those doing the racing. I don't know precisely why the race was shortened. I can't think of a good reason outside the threat of everyone at the track being arrested by police and hauled off to the slammer for a 2 minute curfew violation.

If I remember correctly the track conditions were the dustiest that I've ever seen on Oct. 21 due to a Santa Ana wind event. It was difficult to see the cars on the track and some people were leaving the grandstands early because of the dust. I can't remember if the curfew was involved but it was probably near quitting time. I'm always disappointed when it takes upwards of 3 hours to run 90 laps of racing. At a conservative 20 seconds a lap we only see 30 minutes of green flag racing in those 3 hours. Ever wonder why it's so hard to attract new fans?

For no reason other than to look, I see that, in fact, you didn't have 50 cars the last 3 openers, you guys had 27-33, so really, this year is the BIGGEST season opener car count at Perris in many years.

Rick, I stand corrected, don't know what I was looking at, here is what it says on the results pages.
2003 41 cars, 2004 27 cars, (05, 47, 06 41 cars.) So looks like 2007 was not far off the mark. But still would like to see the 36 car back out.
