If Tony Jones is not running a full point chasing schedule, who is your pick for the championship in '08 ? ?

Spencer is probably the odds on favorite. I would love to see either Sheridan or Cardey win it though. Kruseman will miss too many CRA races to chase points. So who's your pick? ?

Ripper ?

Spencer ?

Showtime ?

Pombo ?

Cardey ?

Miller ?

Good post ImissAscot. I agree Spencer is the odds-on favorite, but there are some young guns to watch. Josh Ford (a very good Chili Bowl), Tyler Brown and Garrett Hansen are a few of the youngsters. Hansen's hard driving tactics last year drew some flak from the CRA veterans and Brown was very good at times last year. I like Ford's chances if they run for points. I also thought that the Camarillo brothers were impressive along with Seth Wilson and at times Michael Trimble. The most anticipated driver to join the ranks of USAC/CRA is Davey Pombo driving for Glenn Crossno. Also rumor had it on this board that Mike Sala would have an entry this year and his car's are always competitive. If the young Nic Faas runs the full season he may be a candidate for ROY. Jones, Rip Williams, Kruseman, Sheridan, Blake Miller, Super Rickie and Cardey will be tough to beat most nights.Anyway it will be very interesting this year and I can't wait for opening night.

I also thought that Luis Espinosa, a VRA regular, was impressive in the Sertich #92 Sprinter and deserves mention. According to track announcer Scott D., the night that we were there, it was his first run in a 410 Sprinter at the PAS. In my opinion he handled himself as a professional and kept the team's car out of trouble the whole evening. The team must have been proud of his performance and I hope they get together again this year. Last year's points battle was exciting and kept race fans interested all year. Congratulations to Tony Jones and the Mark Alexander team on a terrific year.

Mike Spencer and the #50 Sprinter deserve alot of credit for his terrific points race with Jones. One thing is for sure the men that strap themselves in these powerful race cars are very brave. Anyway just my few thoughts about last year and the year to come. Thanks to the PAS and it staff for providing race fans with a great facility and place to watch these brave men handle the powerful
USAC/CRA sprinters. Thanks for a great year and I look forward to this year's opener. Just a race fan.

I think the Camarillo bros were impressive especially when Brent made the USAC/CRA show in his 360. Look for the Camarillo bros to be making a bunch of mains. I think they will finish in the top 20 in points and win some heats. Damion Gardner will win a couple of races and since he probably wont race the whole schedule he wont be in the points battle.

1. Mike Spencer

2. David Cardey

3. Danny Sheridan

4. Josh Ford

5. Rip Williams

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Pombo. He is always competitive, and he is jumping into a very competitive car with Crossno. He is jumping into the car Weir vacated, right? like the rest of you, my gut tells me that Mike Spencer is going to be right there all year long, that Little Red Sucker always is. I also agree with earlier posts about Josh Ford; he was very competitive at the Chili Bowl, and if he runs a full USAC/CRA schedule, watch out. I would also look out for Tyler Brown, he was very impressive last year. In any case, I too cannot wait for the season to start, it should be loads of fun.

Spencer then Sheridan and everyone else scrapping for 3rd. Without a FT Jones or Kruseman it really becomes a two horse race. For Cardy, Ford, RJ, Wilson etc, what you see is what you get. They have been around long enough to prove that they lack what it takes to consistantly win at the PAS. It just might be Danny's year.

Josh Ford is a heck of a driver. Some of you are talking about Chilli Bowl performances.....well look at what Josh did. He will do some winning. Another driver to look at is Dennis Rodriquez. He smoked Rip, Spencer, Tony Jones, Blake Miller, Wakim and Nadine at the Ventura USAC/CRA event in Oct. in a heat race. He was in a 360 with a gasket. Very impressive ride in the Wags Dash and was way ahead until his crank broke. Look for him to run some good solid races. In a hooked up 410 he will raise some eyebrows.

Will Rodriguez be running full-time with USAC/CRA? And if so will he be driving his own ride or for someone else? Also, I forgot R.J. Johnson from Arizona in the Martin sprinter as he deserves to be considered if they run for points.

Dont look for Martin to run the full USAC/CRA deal with RJ. Now that Martin owns Manzy, he has an interest in supporting his own track.

The real winner will be the fans, cause they will get to watch some of the sprint car racers, period.

Let the green flag wave.

I think the bigger question is, which drivers will attempt to run the whole series? I'm talking every race, not skipping Stoga, Santa Maria, Vegas, Tulare, Manzy, or Ventura. That should narrow the chase down quite a bit. I'm sure there will be a bunch of drivers that run all of the Perris races, and I'm sure Cory & Tony will win their fair share. To win the Championship though, one would think its going to take a complete 40 race effort.

Spencer, Sheridan, Cardey, Williams, Pombo, Miller.

Anybody Else??

What Oakhurst brings up was a bone of contention when this was run under the SCRA banner. Races that were on the schedule in Indiana counted towards the championship. Some teams could be in the top 10 in points, but not in a position to do the tour. When the racers returned from the tour, those that didn't go found that they had lost a lot of ground in the point standings.

To I hatebush

If you pull your head out of your ass and open your eyes you might just see that David Cardey has the talent to win lots of races but I guess your just to pre-occupied being an idiot

As far as Dennis is concerned. That is up to him. You will see him at some selected races I am sure. When he does he will make a showing.

Your statement is true harryfan. For the record:

The points for the Midwest tour was always put up for a vote. Year after year, the majority voted to count the races as points races.

It is very unfortunate that if you took the drivers that will run for the title this year and look at their resume on paper, they come into the 2008 season with the least amount of credentials and accomplishments to start a new season.

On the plus side, the talent still in development is constantly improving with time. I suspect Spencer will take the 2008 title. He has a year under his belt with the Chaffin/Bromme combination. They know what he wants and vise versa. Add the fact that Mike takes care of equipment much in the same manner as the "Gasman" did and you have a proven winner. Looking at what Pombo did in the few runs he had with Crossno last year, 2008 could be a good year for him.

Cardey is too inconsistent. Until I see something otherwise, I have to agree with I hatebush. I bet Davey Pombo wins more races than Cardey this year, does anyone want to take that bet?

Agree, and it's a shame that some very good veteran's and some of the young hot shoes from AZ are not in the mix to spice it up like in years past..... You know who I mean.
