Brian Cannon joins Willie Croft Racing

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – January 10, 2008…Chico, CA crew chief Brian Cannon has joined forces with Nor Cal throttle masher Willie Croft for the 2008 sprint car racing season. The new formation is expected to be a solid combo as the Willie Croft Racing team competes in and around Northern California during the year.

Cannon spent the majority of this past season as the crew chief for the Elite Racing No. 1 of Ronnie Day and the A & A Motorsports No. 92 of Andy Forsberg. Cannon wrenched Day to a sixth place finish in the final Golden State Challenge Series points, including 10 top five finishes, 12 top 10’s and five heat race victories in 23 starts. The 25 year-old crew chief then re-formed his alliances with Forsberg in August and he helped tune the Auburn driver to the Civil War Series title, a third place finish at the Fall Nationals in Chico, and a couple of wins in weekly competition at Silver Dollar & Placerville Speedway’s.

Croft is a 36 year-old veteran of the sport and has become known as one of the hardest charging competitors on the west coast. The Sacramento driver known as “Double Down” had possibly the finest year of his career in ’07, as he finished third in the final Golden State Challenge Series standings and picked up his second career win with the series in August at the American Valley Speedway in Quincy. Along the way Croft drove his Holey Smokes BBQ No. 29 to nine top five finishes, 19 top 10’s and four heat race wins in 25 starts. He has also become one of California’s top qualifiers and he led GSC in that stat this past season with five fast time efforts.

With the season fast approaching Cannon is excited about joining Willie Croft Racing this year, “I’m looking forward to getting the season started,” Cannon said. “Willie is a driver that’s not afraid to stand on the gas and I think we’re going to have a great year together.” The combination will do battle with a number of sanctioning bodies in ‘08, primarily focusing on the California Civil War Series and the Silver Dollar Speedway track title. In addition to that they are expected to compete in a select number of Golden State Challenge events during the year and various special shows. Look for the Brian Cannon wrenched, Willie Croft Racing No. 29 to begin the season with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Series at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare on February 22 & 23.
