Diverse Weekend on Tap for ASCS Rocky Mountain Region

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla.  (August 27, 2007) – The racers of the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region will have an opportunity to showcase their diversity this weekend as the series slings the clay on Saturday night in Kansas before taking to the asphalt on Sunday in Colorado.
 
Saturday night, the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region makes its first appearance at the semi-banked, 3/8-mile RPM Speedway dirt oval in Hays, KS.  Then on Sunday evening, it's on to the semi-banked, 3/8-mile Colorado National Speedway asphalt oval in Erie, CO.
 
With just nights of action following this weekend's pair of events, C.J. Johnson of Quinter, KS, maintains a 72-point lead over former series champion Keith Rauch of Thornton, CO.  Johnson has his sights set on becoming the seventh different ASCS Rocky Mountain Region champion in as many years.
 
Bob Schaeffer of New Castle, CO, enters the weekend ranked third, with 18-year-old Chad Corken of Highlands Ranch, CO, and defending series champion Patrick Bourke of Edwards, CO, rounding out the current top five.
 
The balance of the current top ten includes 17-year-old Ricky Montgomery (Lakewood, CO), Mark Sweet (Rock Springs, WY), 16-year-old Josh Flood (Arvada, CO), Nick Haygood (Centennial, CO) and John Jacob (Aurora, CO).
 
Saturday's action at RPM Speedway goes green at 7:00 p.m.
 
RPM Speedway is located in Hays, KS, off I-70 Exit 159, then south to frontage road, then ¼-mile west.  For more information, contact the track at 785-743-2437 or 785-731-5233.
 
Pit gates at Colorado National Speedway open at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, with hot laps at noon.  Grandstands open at 3:00 p.m., with "B" Mains (if necessary) at 5:00 p.m.  Feature events fire off at 6:00 p.m.
 
Colorado National Speedway is located 20 miles north of Denver on I-25 to Exit 232, then east to East Frontage Road, then one mile north, then east.  For more information, contact the track at 303-828-0116.
 
The ASCS Rocky Mountain Region 2007 slate consists of 17 nights of action at eleven different tracks throughout Colorado, western Kansas, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska and South Dakota.
 
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
