Jonathan Allard tallies 4th place result in International Sprintcar Series Round 2

By Gary Thomas

Corner Cuba and Pascal Streets, New Zealand – December 23, 2008…With rain postponing the second round of the International Thunder Down Under Sprintcar Series in New Zealand, defending King of California Jonathan Allard came back on Sunday night and raced to his second top five finish in two starts down under.

The previous weekend had seen Allard charge forward in the main event for a fifth place finish at the Wellington Speedway and looked to put his name towards the front of the field once again, this time competing at the Robertson Holder Speedway.

With the heavy rain the previous day and night however, it took a lot of effort from the track crew, but they were able to do a great job and get the surface ready for competitive racing action in time for drivers to hit the track on Sunday.

After not getting a qualifying time in last weekend due to transponder issues Allard came back this past weekend to post the fifth fastest lap of the session out of 31 cars aboard the K&N Filters, Red Line Oil, Horse & Trap No. 0. The Chico, California native then scored finishes of fifth in both his heat race and the dash to set him up with a third row starting spot in the main event.

In the 30 lap contest Allard ran in the top five throughout and at the checkered flag crossed the line in fifth behind fellow Americans Ricky Logan, Craig Dollansky, Joey Saldana & Paul McMahan. After the race however, Dollansky was dq’d as crew members had attended to his car during a closed red period. With this occurring it bumped the JP’s Paint & Body, Platinum Powder Coating, Butler Built Performance No. 0 up to the fourth spot in the final rundown.

Next up for Allard in New Zealand will be an event at Western Springs Auckland this Friday December 26 followed by races at Baypark Speedway on December 27 and 30, before heading over to Sydney, Australia after that.
