Great thread. Todays shooters could take a lesson...step back, get some perspective, choose different angles, more than 1 car in a great shot.
Anyone have more photos of late 70's Knoxville? Randy Smith, Mike Pinkney, John Stevenson ect...

Thanks for the pics Lee. Takes me back to when I was a kid. Rim Ridin' Randy Smith was the man for a lot of years at Knoxville, with and without a wing, but Mike Pinkney was always my favorite. Keep em coming!

What's up with the funky frame bars that make up the front clip? Look at the point where the front of the red side panels ends. The downtube seems to stop there and take a weird detour

Looks like a coil over front end. Possibly widened the chassis at the front for wider axle, to keep coil overs at less of an angle. Just a guess.

Hawker, thats a pic I took of Tingelstad at Eldora in the 60's. The car was called the Dayton Racing Associates Spl. at that time. It was also the ex Sweikert car that Jerry Hoyt wrecked and it also became a Hoover Motor Express car for awhile before Tingey had it. Bud then sold the car to John Wergland and I lost track of it after that. I agree it is a beautiful thing.

Steve, That is Jerry Polands car in your avatar!

The Wild Child was on loan to the crutch cars thank you, he came back that very year and got his wingless skills back mainly for that show.

Dayton '67. Johnny Rutherford in the 99. Can anyone ID other drivers, or the engines in the 2 rear cars? Inside looks like a hemi, maybe a Caddy or Olds in the 93?
|
Sonny Ates 93, Bob Pratt 6, Bud Tingelstadt 15?, Olds

After this many pages, this many replies, and this many photos, do you really think it's neccesary to use that kind of language? It doesn't reflect well on you. Everyone has an opinion, why do you need to dip a bucket in the sewer to express yours?
