Welcome to the new Minnesota Dirt Track Racing message board. Special thanks to Jeff, webmaster and administrator of the hoseheadsforums.com family of forums, for providing this board. I know, yeah, I know what you're thinking. I'm a little bit like the prodigal son who thought the grass was greener on the other side and now I'm coming back to the hoseheadsforums with my tail between my legs. Actually, it wasn't a difficult decision considering the awesome new boards here on hoseheadsforums.com. This is going to be a lot of fun and as was the case in the past your membership to this board will enable you to participate in the entire family of HH's forums. Most of the people visiting the MDTR board are Sprint fans so it's better this way. Please forgive me for my experiment gone bad, register on this new board and enjoy. Please note that all login issues should be directed to [email protected] as gotomn.com does not handle tech issues for this board. Direct questions regarding message board problems to [email protected] If you email me at [email protected] I will forward your email to that address.

FYI, I'm finding that this board works best with Internet Explorer and Netscape. If you're using another browser such as Opera it still works but I'm not seeing the message editing icons in Opera.

Stan,
As as FYI regarding browsers, I've been using Firefox 2.0 on these Hosehead Forums without issue. Best of luck with the *NEW* board again.

I got in the habit of using Opera because I liked the tab feature and have been using it for a couple of years. I had been using Firefox prior to that. Everything works in Opera except I don't see the icons in this posting window that appear in the other browsers. I was able to post photos by typing in the html the old fashioned way but it's easier to use the buttons. On the other hand, it's a hassle to migrate everything to another browser.
Right now I'm trying to rebuild a computer and ran into compatibility issues with the proprietory case. I have to go buy a case now and see how much I can get done today so I'll worry about these other details when I'm done with the rebuild.

I see that Netscape uses Tabs and I can see the icons so I'm going to import my bookmarks and try it for a while.

Well...I'm in but I had to select a different user name since I could't get anyone to respond to me regarding my old user name and password but that's OK...at least I'm back on.

Steve, I didn't see your message until Sunday afternoon. I
stopped using IM because I prefer email and phone
calls. Email me at [email protected] and let me know what's up.
I have been busy this weekend rebuilding a computer. A little
over two years ago I bought a Sony Vaio and the motherboard fried in
early August. I went to CompUSA where I bought it and the repair
price was outrageous, new board around $500 and $130 just to put it on
the bench and look at it. I said to h*ll with it and
bought another PC until I had time to rebuild with the Sony parts. The wife was still using an old 486 I built
years ago so I finally had time to rebuild. There were a few bugs
I had to work out with the hardware. When I got the hardware and
bios configured properly and tried to boot up it prompted me to
re-register Windows so there must be a code in the bios. Sony
won't give me a new registration key because I changed the
configuration so I'm installing Linux Ubuntu. To h*ll with
Windows, they're not the only OS in town.
Ubuntu sees the other computer on my home network but the XP machine
isn't seeing the new build. I believe the tech guy at work who
gave me the Linux CD said that there's a network utility that I need to
install. I have to import the wife's Outlook mail from the 486 as
well.
This has been a challenging weekend and a big learning curve. New motherboard, new case and power supply, new operating system to learn and new message board on the website.

No biggie Stan, just wanted to talk about stuff. You know what I mean bud. Email me your phone number at [email protected] and I will give ya a call.
As far as building or rebuilding obsolete computers, its really not worth it. Lots of headaches as you mentioned and lots of time getting it working properly. Buying new systems is the way to go. Just like the idea with cars, drive new every 3-4 years. Comps usually perform good for that period and by then its time to upgrade because its really obsolete. Technically they are obsolute the first year or sooner LOL

It's a P4 3 gig so it's worth keeping over the 486 the wife
was using. I'm getting fed up with Linux though. 2 hours
researching how to change the friigin' DNS numbers from the defaults
and finally found the file and where to go with the text editor.
Now after making changes according to the instructions on the ubuntu
forum I find that it's a read only file and I can't change it. If
this is what Linux is like, two and three hours research for things I
could do in one minute in Windows I'm going back to the drawing board.
I'll mail you my cell number Steve.
