Wednesdays with Wayne – Jack of AllBuilding Trades!

(Bill W) April 16, 2008 – In the last month, the "Jack of All Trades" has become the "Jack of All Building Trades"! Sprint car driver Wayne Johnson is used to changing equipment on the racetrack, but doing a variety of jobs on a new home in Knoxville, Iowa has given Wayne a new appreciation for carpentry, and a yearning to get back to racing! This weekend, he'll get his wish.

There's still some work to be done, but it's finally time to go racing! "I need to get back on the track to make some money to pay for all of this stuff!" says Wayne of his remodeling work. "As much as we've done here, it should be me that has the Home Depot sponsorship!"

Wayne will resume racing this weekend in Missouri. Weather forecast pending, he plans on heading to the Midway Raceway in Lebanon to battle with the Winged Outlaw Warriors. The veteran driver won his only previous WOW feature appearance in 2003 at Sedalia when he topped Tracy Nichols, Hall of Famer Jimmy Sills, Randy Martin and Rusty Potter on the big ½ mile.

On Saturday, Wayne and the H&H Enterprises #94 team will tow to the beautiful Lucas Oil Speedway near Wheatland to resume their American Sprint Cars on Tour campaign. Wayne is currently second in points behind Gary Wright, but is not focused on the points right now. "We just need to get a win," he says. "It's been a long time since we did it in Florida! In the 'Show Me' State, we want to 'Show Them'!"

Wayne looks forward to going to the facility called "The Diamond of Dirt Tracks". "I've never been there, but I've heard it's an immaculate facility," he says. "I'm looking forward to it! Most of all, I'm just ready to get back racing." Wayne enters the weekend 46 points behind Wright in his quest for a second ASCoT title.

Up Next

Wayne will be heading to more familiar surroundings in the upcoming ASCoT schedule. On April 25 and 26, the series heads to Paris Motor Speedway in Paris, Texas and I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas. After a date at Lake Ozark Speedway on May 3, Wayne will take the Mike and Tim Hammers/Robbie Forbes #94 to his hometown State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City, and the Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas on May 9 and 10. After that, he'll settle into Knoxville Raceway with the 410 for awhile.

T-shirts and Hats

Separate shirts for the H&H #94 and FattFro #14AJ are now available at the trailer. Keep an eye on www.RacingThreads.com in the near future to order. Hats are sold out, but a new batch has been ordered.

Wayne's World

Cliff in Bessemer, AL asks: How much do you use your brakes on a big ½ mile like Knoxville?

Wayne answers: A lot more than you would think. The way I drive, I use it to keep the car loaded. You'll see those brake rotors glowing at Knoxville sometimes. When the racetrack is slick, I use it all the way around sometimes to keep the wheel spin out of it. More than anything, you need a lot of brake to run the bottom there.
