SEXTON/GATLIN RACING ADDS DRIVER FOR SATURDAY’S CLS RACE AT BARONA!
(Lakeside, CA, April 4, 2019) Sexton/Gatlin Racing is adding a driver as it swings back into action when the California Lightning Sprint Car Series hits the Barona Speedway this Saturday night, April 6th. In addition to Brent Sexton and his teenage sons, Dalton and Grant, the Lakeside, California based team will be entering NASCAR Truck Series regular Sheldon Creed in a fourth car on the San Diego County dirt oval.
Being from nearby El Cajon, Creed, 21 and last year’s ARCA Stock Car Series champion, will be racing at the track closest to his home when he joins forces with Sexton/Gatlin Racing. Thus far in the five races in the NASCAR Truck Series this year, he has a season-best finish of sixth at Las Vegas on March 1st. Last Friday he placed 22nd at the Texas Motor Speedway.
In addition to his prowess in the ARCA series in 2018, Creed is an X-Games Gold Medalist in Stadium Trucks, a two-time Stadium Speed Energy Super Trucks Champion and has won five off-road championships. In addition, he is one of only three drivers to ever win two Lucas Oil Off-Road championships simultaneously.
Going into Saturday’s affair at Barona, Dalton Sexton, 16, sits highest of the family in the CLS championship standings. The second-year driver is 11th. 2018 Rookie of the Year Grant is three spots back in 14th. Father Brent, a two-time series champion, has been plagued by mechanical issues the first two races of the year and is currently 27th.
In three 2018 appearances at Barona with the CLS, Brent had a stellar record with two fourth place finishes and one fifth. Dalton placed seventh, eighth and 12th in the three races and Grant came home sixth, 11th and 18th.
Fans interested in attending Saturday’s race to watch the Sextons and Creed battle with the other CLS stars can find the Barona Speedway at 1754 Wildcat Road in Lakeside (92040). The track website is https://baronaspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (619) 749-8115. Gates will open at noon with racing at 5:00.
After Saturday’s race, the team will get one week off before heading to the Bakersfield Speedway for the second time this year on April 20th.
