Van Dyke Motorsports Driver Buddy Kofoid Ready for a Home Game This Saturday at Petaluma Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Petaluma, CA – April 25, 2018…Coming off a solid run at the Asparagus Cup last week Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and Van Dyke Motorsports are now set to venture towards the cool confines of Petaluma Speedway with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday.

The inaugural $10,000-to-win Asparagus Cup at the Stockton Dirt Track saw Kofoid charge from 14th starting to run as high as fifth at one point, before settling for a sixth-place finish. “We got rolling really well later in the main event at Stockton last week,” he commented. “The track was in great shape and it was a lot to fun to race with a guy like Tim Kaeding over the last handful of laps. That was definitely a run we can build off.”

This Saturday night the Van Dyke Motorsports/ Gary Silva Ranches No. 5H will be in action at the sticky 3/8-mile clay oval of Petaluma Speedway, for what is the third round of competition with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards. With two events complete Kofoid ranks ninth in the tour standings.

The Petaluma Speedway is also the closest track to Kofoid’s hometown of Penngrove, making it a special race for the 16-year-old and one that he wants to perform well at. Last season he earned a victory at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds based facility in the month of June and hopes to do so once again on Saturday.

“I’m really looking forward to Petaluma this weekend,” Kofoid said. “With it being so close to Penngrove I always have a lot of friends and family that come out to the races. We don’t have the chance to run there a whole lot so it’s always nice to race less than 20-minutes from home. Hopefully we can put together a complete night and end up on the front stretch for all of our partners.”

Adult tickets this Saturday April 28 cost $20, with juniors 6-11 and seniors 65+ $16, kids five and under will be free. The pit gate for competitors opens at noon, while the front gate opens at 4pm. The drivers meeting will be held at 3:45pm, with track packing at 4pm.

The Petaluma Speedway is located in the southern part of the wine country at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds just off Highway 101 in Petaluma, California. More info on the track can be found at http://www.petaluma-speedway.com

Van Dyke Motorsports and Michael “Buddy” Kofoid would like to thank Gary Silva Ranches, Lucas Oil Products, NAAKE Suspension and JRI West, T&T Trucking, Rafter V Farms, Hansen Machine Works, Sonoma Paint Center, North County Plastering, Flowmaster and Kevin Sharrah Designs for their support this season.
