BRENT SEXTON AND HIS SONS OPEN LIGHTNING SPRINT CAR SEASON SATURDAY IN PLACERVILLE!
(Lakeside, CA, March 29, 2018) After two straight weeks of rainouts in Southern California, Brent Sexton and his teenage sons, Dalton and Grant, are headed north this Saturday to kick off the 2018 racing season with the Bay Cities Racing Association at the Placerville Speedway.
The two cancelations came after rain pounded the Bakersfield Speedway and the Ventura Raceway on the dates of the first two scheduled California Lightning Sprint Car Series events. With the CLS not scheduled to compete again until April 14th at Ventura, the Lakeside, California based trio decided to head north this weekend to get in some laps.
Father Brent is a two-time California Lightning Sprint Car Series champion having taken home the title in 1999 and 2008. After several seasons out of the driver’s seat, he returned in 2017 and plans on racing not only for the 2018 California Lightning Sprint Car championship, but the USAC National title as well.
Both Dalton, a freshman at Granite Hills High School, and Grant, a student at Tierra Del Sol Middle School, will be competing for the CLS “Rookie of the Year” award. Grant competed in the final 2017 CLS race at Bakersfield, and then finished 12th at the “Tulsa Shootout” in Oklahoma last December. Dalton will be making his racing debut on Saturday. Both teenagers play baseball and football and Dalton is a high school wrestler.
Behind the scenes, Seth Kramer, a former main event winner with the CLS, and Layton Kramer will be turning wrenches on the three cars throughout the 2018 campaign.
On Saturday, gates will open at 3:00 P.M. at Placerville and racing will begin at 6:30. The BCRA will be joined on the program by the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. Fans wishing to attend can find the track at the El Dorado County Fair and Event Center at 100 Placerville Drive in Placerville (95567). The track phone number is (530) 344-7592 and the track website is https://www.placervillespeedway.com/
