Patrick had already set several historic benchmarks for women in racing, including the only woman to win an IndyCar race, the highest finish of any female in the Indianapolis 500 (third), the highest finish of any female in a NASCAR national touring series race (fourth) and the highest season-ending finish of any female in a NASCAR national touring series (10th). The thing is, that may be a relatively pedestrian resume for some male drivers, but please put this in perspective...To this point in her career and the racing world, she has performed the best of any female driver in the sport. Period. End of story. For that reason, she deserves SOME of the spotlight. I too tire of all the hype surrounding her, but it is deserving because she is breaking ground in a completely male dominated sport. Male chauvinists, especially those who have never climbed inside a racing seat and strapped in, or those who have not achieved her level of success, just back off and let it stand for what it is.

Her engine blew so she could leave the race and save face. They didi not want her to rub the whole race because she would be too tired to ride in the back in the 500......

Not really Stan! Steve & Sammy cut their teeth on Sprint Cars and raced the majority of their careers doing nothing but that. They both tried Asphalt late in their careers but I truely believe that the radical nature of driving a Sprint Car is way so far off base from the NASCAR or INDY car that could not adapt. Maybe if given enough time and good equipment but that was not the case. Kenny Bernstien was a POS the way he did Kinser over. Danika cut her teeth on Asphalt. Put this into perspective, If Danika were to get a top WoO ride from Tony Stewart, With her success in INDY & NASCAR could you see her competing in the top 5 or 10 with the World of Outlaws in 2,3 or 4 years? Could you see her making the Knoxville Nationals A-Main? Ever? I'm not a Danika Basher, but I do believe if Steve Kinser or Sammy Swindell would have climbed into a Grand National Car in the 70's rather than a Sprint Car, They would have been one of the Best.

If sprint cars are so far off base from nascar, please xplain Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman, and even Kyle Larsen. Im wondering about you, paintboss. lol

I don't know? Did any of these guys stick with Sprint Cars for almost 20 years before trying their hand at NASCAR like Kinser did? I'm thinking all of these guys cut their teeth for about 5 years give or take before moving up. Are you seriously saying that Driving a Winged Sprint and a Stock Car is not much different? I would think IRL would be closer to Winged Sprints than anything and that is a stretch as they are Rear engine race machines but they do have thedown force the Stock Cars lack.

If Kinser, Swindell or Wolfie and even Schatz would have started their careers in NASCAR, I have very little doubt that they would have been sucessful.

Never have made a comment on this subject, don't really care to be honest, but I do think it's pretty funny that she has now led a lap at both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500 which should pretty much stfu most of the childish haters on here. I daresay there are a very few racers who could ever make that claim which puts her in some pretty exclusive company, if you don't count John Andretti, lol.....

Waltrip was told
to stay out to help give Danica a lap lead. all
scripted my Nascar. DW said the cars are an equalizer to explain why Mcdowel was
in 12th , then said Danica is soooo gooood.

I hope the media does not make a habit of telling us danica led her 1st lap at,phoenix, vegas, california, and so on.its weird do u get an award for leading a lap, they used to at half way many years ago, possibly before she born,i guess its a new trend,i want to know when stenhouse leads a lap,at least he can say he is in a love relationship with a nascar driver, whats next the first gay person to lead a lap,or the first transexual to lead`a lap, where is jt hayes these days..............these statements are not to be taken seriously just for your entertainment only.

Rationality & facts will never prevail where prejudice & emotion (& hormones?) are so well-represented. But with 15 laps to go at Daytona, "The Girl" is in =third= and pushing Greg Biffle's rear bumper after leading the race twice during green flag laps. Nah. She's a fluke. (Yeeeeeah.)

Gotta hand it to her...a top 10 finish and she didn't take anyone out.

Can't wait to see her on a REAL race track...like Martinsville or Richmond!

She'll drop like a leaf in the standings. The only time she'll make noise is when she wrecks.

Right on the money Opnwhlr! I think she will have both good and bad races all season long. But why, oh why, are we spending so much time and energy on any racer in Nascar? Maybe it makes some sense for Tony, or Kasey, or Jeff, or even Blaney (glad to see a respectable finish there!) or Stenhouse, but what relevance does Danica have to traditional or winged sprint car racing!?

Not about DANICKY...but we are talking NASCAR...so a shout out to some of the lesser known drivers who made it into the top 10 today...especially SMITH, McDOWELL and YELEY. Good job.
