They don't just give guys extra time in the work area just because they are a former champ or a platinum member. Earlier this year where Gravel flipped (I think Wilmot?) yes he was in the work area for longer than 2minutes. Other factors that allowed him to get out there was it was red flag conditions so it took longer to get cars going, lined up, and also other cars entered the work area which started their 2minute clock giving Gravel more time. There was a race last year that I believe a crew's 2minutes were up but then Jacob Allen came in because he had a tire going down which started a 2min clock for him and this board & facebook went nuts because they said the other driver's 2min clock.
Last year after Attica their was someone here trying to sell a conspiracy theory because Sweet was in the work area for longer than 2mins, saying it was because it was because he was the former champ. Me actually being at the track told him no, it was because 2 other cars entered the work area after Sweet did so he had the advantage of their 2min clock as well. Then add to the fact that their were two local drivers who were arguing about where they lined up, and another local driver pulling off the track aided it. Had nothing to do with being a platinum member, a champion, or having the owner be a nascar driver. Just the advantage of the rules. The only thing that they can fix up on the rule is deciding which cars the tow trucks grap first in a multi car pile up
