OK. Schatz average starting position in 2015 was 6.5
Point well taken
Actual info is SO much better than all these "insultathons"!

Schatz will never be headed. As soon as any new driver shows any talent or form the scouts from NASCAR have whisked them away to the bright lights & rediculous pay cheques. Sprintcar racing is in a tough place with all the talent being stolen!!

You're exactly right and I don't see a solution to the issue. Is what it is. The only way to keep those guys in real race cars is to have comparable money to be made. The money to be made in taxi cabs is light years ahead of sprint cars and honestly, I'd like to keep it that way. NASCAR never was even close to being as exciting as sprint car racing but there was a time not so long ago that it wasn't too bad. After Earnhardt was killed, it just started spiraling downhill to the point where I'd literally watch just about anything other than NASCAR. It isn't racing to me, its just cars going around in circles being driven by a bunch of corporate puppets with fake personalities. I'd rather not see sprint car racing lose its edge due to huge money being involved. If that means we lose talent, so be it. It sucks but it is what it is. I forget who posted it, but I remember a post on here comparing Kyle to lions at the zoo. Still the best post I've ever read on here and it couldn't be more true.

This problem is bigger than just auto racing. How do we stop Walmart from killing "mom & pop" stores?
Unfortunately, money talks.....

Yep. Can't do it. The only solution is for them to step up and compete but in order to do that, they then become a part of the problem. Walmart was once a mom and pop store and they found a way to basically take over the world. That's capitalism.

What was the comparison of Kyle to lions at the zoo? If you even remember. Don't think I saw the post and was interested as to what the comparison was.

Rather than limiting the debate to Larson vs Schatz perhaps we could open it up to What place do you think Kyle Larson would finish if he were to do a full WoO season?
I'd probably pencil him in for 4th-5th
|
He would finish Top 3 at worst, how many full time outlaw teams are there ? 15 at best. They have to rely on the local guys to show up to run a full main.

I can't even begin to repeat it. Hopefully the original poster can dig it out because it was good. Basically though, he likened Kyle and the other sprint car drivers in NASCAR to lions at the zoo because you look into their eyes and its like staring into space because their mind and heart are reminiscing about their time spent on the open range being on the hunt and pursuing their prey (driving sprint cars) and not laying in a cage being stared at by people (NASCAR). Even though their life is far easier, they're still hunters and the need to hunt and chase down their prey never goes away. It was a great analogy and I did a very shitty job of explaining it so hopefully someone can dig it out. But basically, it totally described how bored Kyle looks on Sundays compared to when he's on a dirt track driving real racecars

You did pretty good. I've been trying to remember the thread bcuz like someone said it may have been the best post here. It seems someone mentioned the lion analogy was taken from a movie

Thanks for the analogy, a different way to look at things, but a pretty cool prespective and definitely has some truth. Alot of my friends are NASCAR fans and never attended many sprint car races. So, they never really got to see Kyle run sprint cars. I always told them he looks so bored running NASCAR compared to when he was running real race cars on dirt full-time. Maybe I'm not the only one who noticed that.

No doubt in my mind he's bored. Same with Tony, hence the reason he risked his career just to fill that void that was missing up until the Kevin Ward tragedy. There's no way in hell that going around a paved track in circles for 4 hours getting "Lucky Dogs", relying on pit stops to get track position and moving over to let the faster guy go is more fun than running a sprinter inches from the wall at Eldora wide the f__k open, banging off that 2 foot high curb at Tulare or throwing sliders in a wingless car at Kokomo.

You're right on.....Tony has said for several years that he wanted to leave NASCAR while he was still able to go back and do his first love of racing on dirt. Kyle Petty said it best years ago....."turn us loose and don't sell any tickets in the first 18 rows!"
