I am happy that I made it to Ascot the year they closed, awesome place!
Buckeye Speedway in Orville, Ohio is a neat track...saw Steve K and Ron Shuman put on a wheelie clinic there on a Tuesday night...that was a long time ago, 1985 I think!!

If you have video of the Purcell race where Jim Perry Jr. lapped up to third place with a cast iron 377 I would be VERY interested in seeing that

Yikes. Do you remember what year it was? And if so, a rough date, like to the month, maybe? Some of the real early stuff we have is kind of sporadic, but I'd be more than happy to look through what's there, and go over it. A lot of the stuff that I have I've skipped over, just looking for footage of my dad and whatnot, but I could definitely look it over again.
These are all tapes that belong to Tom Fisher, who co-owned the 35M car. I just bogarted them out of his shop one night to reminisce, so maybe he'd know more about it than me.

I'm pretty sure it was '85 and it was late in the year - like late August or early September. It was a sprint only show and there were over 50 cars. There were some heavy hitters from out of state like Washington and Oregon with most having 410's. That's what made the win so special. It was my first trip there and that didn't hurt either plus we were camped with the Perry's.

Till this day I don't know why, but when I was about 6 and living in Torrance my Dad and some of his fellow crazy racer friends took me to see JC Agajanian's pig farm. The garbage that was picked up at our house in Torrance went out to feed those pigs, and those pigs helped built Ascot, and sponsor some of the best that ever ran, but still. LOL Maybe it was just the beer.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Flemmington (now houses or something) in NJ was a rectangle. Very squared off in the turns. It was dirt, then paved, but always entertaining. Wolfgang got around that joint like nobody else ever could in a sprinter.
The track that Earl Baltes used to own was unique as well. Not in shape but in banking. You used to see cars pass each other. Forgive me.
"The Outlaws have people out here that don’t know
anything about racing. I don’t understand how they
come up with some of the calls they do. It makes me
think that they just might be that stupid. It’s
scary." -Steve Kinser

I helped close Ascot down on Turkey Night in the pits as part of the Consani crew with Sills driving for Bob. Had a full on case of tonsilitis and a wonderful mixture of codeine and vicodin to help me out. 104 cars qualified the first night and I don't remember a thing...Actually, come to think of it, I remember very little about the three day show except Stan Fox won and Jimmy came through the pack to run third on the track but was two laps down after an early race dust up ripped a muffler off and the repairs took two laps (counting under yellow because it was a 100 lap race) to finish.
Oh, and the slick track next door hosted a star studded main event that would rival any show in the US after the first night of practice. Shuman, Kaeding, Noffsinger etc., all trading paint in go karts.

My guess on the Jim Perry Jr. win at Grass Valley is Sept. of 86.
