Larry Nailon built "Black Magic", and it was driven by Evard Humphrey and Terry Doss. In a time of hard racing with tough gunslingers, it held it's own quite well.

Great stuff. Thanks for sharing. But I think one of those videos was doctored. It showed open-wheeled cars at Lawton racing in more than one groove.

That hobby stock at the 7:53 min mark with his left front hiked up was just awesome!

Kenny, Kenny, Kenny, don't you have a press release plugging a potential Heisman Trophy to take care of? Or at least brush up on your announcing so you can be the next OU football play by play guy?!?!

Heisman season is still a couple weeks off. I'm still having racing withdrawal.

It's 1961, Hutch is about to commence with cars that would be known as supermodifieds.
The weather is hot, the trophy girls are hot, the race cars are hot, even the track is hot.
Aluminum is scarce, and carbon fiber is "whut them there NASSER ASTREENAWTS use to send them monkies into outer space with,....mostly to eat I'm shurr".

The 1st car is from TX of course and the rest In this video up to about 1:33 is all from Great Bend, Hutchinson and Salina, KS. Tracks were Golden Belt Speedway in Great Bend, Mohawk/Salthawk Speedway in Hutchinson, The Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson and Salina Speedway in Salina, KS.
Cars I actually remembered were Mel Potts #0 Alan Combs #55 & 55jr, 21 Marvin McNett, #32-2 Butch Brack, #22Max Sloan, #30 Possible Marvin Bradford(?), #39 Tom Drewell (?), 77 Jack Petty, 48 Sammy Brittendal, #23 Sam Cell, 88 Dennis Narron, #70 (?), 59 is taken at Great Bend I question the driver but could be Shelby Steenson and owned by maybe Homer Ruth of Soloman?, 01 is at Great Bend also (might be Bob Gilmore(?), #29 is at Salina (?), 713 at Salina (?), 3.2% was a Great Bend car.
Also love the Orange Blossom Special song to go with them. Reminded me of Willie Wheel Chair of KFDI radio in the 70's. He use to play the song when talking about racing at 81 Speedway. He was a real DJ ambassador for racing in the 70's.
