Portable heaters may be in use Saturday night. We will have both the Pot Belly Stove and the Double Barrel Heater burning firewood Saturday night. But most the heat will be on the racetrack.

The triple header continues for the third weekend of racing this Saturday night January 3, 2009. Place was jam-packed last Saturday night. Look for another fun time this Saturday.

We now have two Double Barrell Heaters, thanks to AMA GNC Tuner Garry Baehler for help in obtaining the kit to build the heaters, Ronnie Murphey OCRS 2 Barrel Sprint Car racer who donated the barrels, retired Speedway Motorcycle Racer Harpo who fabricated the heater kit, Danny with Pro Helmet Designs who provided the compressed air and heated shop to build the Double Barrel heater and Pro 600 Vintage racer #36 Kevin Ellingsworth who transported the finished heater to the OK Corral Indoor Arena. Kudos to all that helped bring the second Double Barrell Heater to life in the OK Corral for the enjoyment of everyone who attends for many years to come. .

Sowders & Medrano Winners at OK Corral

105 entries competed to a packed crowd during round number eight of the 14 race 5th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Short Track point series. And racers battled atop a super smooth blue-groove racetrack at the OK Corral Indoor Arena Saturday night. This was night number three of the triple-header holiday three weekend race meet.

Local favorites Bret Sowders, Bryan Collins, Jerry Cartwright, and Scott Koonce set the pace for the main event by finishing in the top transfer positions of the two Pro Singles heat races. Bryan Collins aboard his mean green Kawasaki let the good times roll, but did not have enough to hold off Jerry Cartwright for second. It was Bret Sowders winning a second time in the holiday triple header weekends races. Sowders joins Jeff Bostic with two wins for the series in Open Pro Singles.

It was Edmond, Oklahoma’s Casey Collins taking another win in the Pee Wee BB . Wesley Collins, last year's AMP Overall Point Champ took the win in the 65-A class over Frankie Bardaro, and Tony Opichhka. Collins continued his winning streak in the 85-A class with Trey Munday, and Tony Opichka rounding out the top three. Payton Simpson, a previous two time AMP OWN Champ, had his hands full with multi-time AMP Champ, AMA Red Bull Rookies Cup contender, and Five State 85 Champion Austin Medrano Saturday night. Medrano took back to back wins in both the 125/250 and the Open-A class. Medrano made it a double win for the Holiday Triple-Header weekend at the OK Corral. Jerry Buie placed second with point leader Simpson finishing third in the Open-A. Simpson, who also leads the point chase in the 125/250 finished in second spot in that class with Mike Fuller in third.

Battle lines were drawn atop the clay oval for round 8 of the 14 race 6th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Indoor Short Track Point Series. Paul Buckmaster, the owner of Jay’s Steak House in Shawnee, Oklahoma, handled track prep for this round of action. A super smooth, blue groove racing surface came in for the main events. The series in it's sixth year of existence has grown to a new level for this year's competition seeing several new racers and teams joining the fun at the historic OK Corral Indoor Arena. Volunteers had to light the oak-firewood in all the heaters including the Pot-Belly Stove and the two double-barrel heaters with temperatures in the lower 30s when the gates opened.

In the Pro classes it was all Tulsa based Jason Sperry taking the wins in both the 250 and the Open Pro Quads tonight. Marcie Long taking second in the Open Pro, with points leader Daniel McGuire rounding out the podium.

The Blaster 300 and the 85 youth divisions with full starting grids for the Main Events. Racers battled atop the clay/sand mixed surface inside the historic OK Corral Indoor rodeo arena, which began hosting races in 1972. The arena is located 20 miles east of downtown Oklahoma City four miles north of Interstate I-40 at exit 172 the Harrah/Newalla Road. When the smoke cleared it was Tristian McElyea making it five wins in a row in the Blaster class, defeating runner up Nathan Wells and Cody Yelton in third. Logan Yelton made it four wins in a row in the hotly contested 85 class taking the checks over hard charging Frankie Bardaro with Bailey Hughes finishing in third spot. Cody Yelton was able to stop the winning streak of four by Bailey Hughes in the 95 class. They youth quad classes continue to grow with participants.

Nathan Wells was the winner in the big 250-A class, with new-comer to the series Travis Baker in second and team mate to Jason Sperry Kyle Myers taking a respective third place finish over some strong competitors. Open A saw another new-comer to the series Chris Cote besting seasoned Donnie Foster and Kyle Myers in another super close finish.

Corby Scherb takes the win in Open Pro Singles in round # 9 of the 14 race series held at the OK Corral Indoor Arena during the 6th Annual AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals Indoor Short Track Point Chase.

32n Corby Scherb out of Decatur, Texas riding his Honda of Texas - PMP - Tucker Rocky sponsored CRF 450r Honda took the checkered flag in the main event Saturday night January 31st. Bryan Collins out of Edmond, Oklahoma took the win in the NOS Energy Drink Dash for Cash in the Open Pro Singles race.

Jeremy Hamilton takes the 125/250, but falls short to Payton Simpson in the Open A class. The Mad Dogs were in the hunt Saturday with riders from four states battling for the title. Joey Raborn from Shreveport LA, Ted York and James Bedingfield out of the Tyler, Texas area, Bryan Trippe from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jerry Buie and Mike Fuller representing Oklahoma.

There will be two drawings. To enter the contest one must be entered in an Amateur Class Saturday Feb 14th, and write their name and Class on a small form at registration.

Every Amateur Racer in the Mini to Blaster Class is eligible to enter the first drawing.

Every Amateur Racer in the 250 and Open Classes is eligible to enter the second drawing.

Winners names will be drawn from the 50/50 can at intermission by the Dash For Cash Winner.

Only one winner per each drawing, in case of muitiple winners, another name will be drawn

After working the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals for 5 straight days the AMP crew headed west to OKC for three days at the Extreme Monster Truck Nationals, then it was onto the AMA Arenacross at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Next on the schedule is the 2009 Motorcycle Show next weekend in OKC.
